Police stories

i was in a 40Mph zone...doing something more like 50 and i hear sirens and see flashes of blue in my mirror, i slow down, indicate and pull in only to have the copper fly past me and another car, thank god for bigger fish to be fried. my heart nearly stopped (i'm joining the raf and need a spotless record) and i pulled into a carpark to get my breath back after.

anyone else have any good police encounters they'd like to share? comeon you know you want to.

Maybe

R100R spaketh thusly: "I'd disagree that police officers show no discretion nowadays.  It depends largely on the officer and a bit on the area.  The reason 'the powers that be' are so keen on cameras is that traffic police have shown too much discretion in the past for their liking."

Perhaps its because I mainly see the younger officers with little sense, and always keen to follow orders, attitude? Yes the area makes a huge difference too, but older wiser heads that might have made it up through the ranks are now mainly replaced by the failed social worker direct entrants from Uni.

That's probably the biggest reason 'the powers that be' don't like officers using any discretion, not only lack of fines income, simply they want to keep officers thinking everyone else is the enemy and vice versa...

I don't think you can be done for simply using a mobile 'on the move'... I often use mine whilst walking and have yet to be stopped ..... I think you have to actually be driving ... maybe someone can clarify the matter?  What would be the situation, say, - if you were in an airport standing on one of those moving walkway thingys ...where technically you are standing still (with your overnight bag and duty free) but you are still 'moving' .... It's a legal minefield!

If an officer saw you using your phone in such a situation and shouted 'Stop!' ...... how could you comply? ...the only way would be to start walking in the opposite direction to the travelator at the exact same speed ...thus maintaining oneself in the exact same spot ...but now you would be walking... and surely that would constitute 'moving' ?
