Hodgson close to Motorpoint Yamaha deal

Neil Hodgson is thought to be close to agreeing terms to ride for Rob McElnea’s Motorpoint Yamaha team next year. McElnea was the former WSB champion’s first port of call when he visited the Croft BSB round back in September – when Hodgson admitted to MCN he was looking to make a return to BSB. And he’s also to visit the team’s...

re hodgson

i agree with pretty much everyone. i think he won't be the force that he was, i think he went to america for the money and he's coming back to where he started. however, walker did it and no one said shit. whitham did it and so did nail macenzie(sp?). whats the problem? it'l add to the racing next year and i think he'd do well.

All the top talent has left bsb over the last couple of seasons I don't think he would be taking a seat of a young'un. Hodgson should work at putting something together, mabe with rutter. Old dogs on Dukes sponsered by Old Spice..;p

you guys assumptions are based on what?

Because he couldn't beat Mladin and Spies when they were on probably the fastest superbikes on the planet?

And let me ask you guys this - how many races have you seen him run in the last couple of year? Probably zero.

If James Ellison can run at the front of BSB than so can Hodgson. James couldn't cut it in the AMA and Hodgson is the one who got him fired. Neil was without a ride (Ducati pulled the rug from under him in AMA) and did a wildcard in James team at Corona Honda. Neil promptly equaled James best finish first time out on a bike James had been on all year and Neil didn't test. And it was at Laguna a track James raced at the previous year in MotoGP. James got fired at the end of the year and wasn't even offered another ride from any team because he was blown away all year.

As long as the bike is up to up Neil will be. He was doing as well as expected in the factory Honda team last year. There is no way he had a chance against Spies and Mladin on the Yosh Suzuki while he was riding a non HRC Blade or the Ducati in AMA trim before that. And remember he got hurt this year in a training accident that collapsed his lung and dislocated his shoulder. Neil hasn't had a bag load of wins or titles from AMA but he has gain a lot of respect for his never say die attitude and results on bikes that were not on pair with the top guys.

Looking at past results, if James Ellison can come into BSB and be a front runner than so can Neil give a proper kit.

Hodgy

Thanks RawDawg - you wrote down very well what I couldn't be arsed to say!

Some people on these forums know nothing about what they are saying - go back to school or go and support Chelsea or something!

i have seen some off the ama rounds, and hodgy would not stand a chance against mladin and spies on the same bike, and has for the rest of the yanks, dont think they are any better than bsb riders anyway(that are left now). so he might stand a chance on a good kit. but give the kit to some young up and coming rider for fuk sake.

Hodgson's return will be good for BSB as he is an ex-champ and like all racer's will try his best until the day the penny drop's and only he know's when that will be, yes it would be good to bring young blood in to the arena but with money being tight it's sometimes better to have an old finisher  than a young crasher and Rob needs all the development on that bike he can get. As far as the AMA season with Hodgson and Ellison there was a big differance between the two bikes they ran and the race crews behind them, both rider's tried very hard but with AMA spec the only winner was Suzuki. It's easy to have a go at some one without the full fact's and unfair to say Ellison couldn't cut it in AMA, take an R1 on a trackday and try and get within 10 seconds of his lap times....not as easy as it sounds.

Short Memory

Has everyone forgotten how good Hodgson is. A former BSB and WSB winner he will be welcomed back to BSB. I seen him race a few years ago on the Ducati at Laguna Seca and let me tell you, he had lost none of his form, was equally as impressive as spies and mladin through the infield. The Ducati wasn't to the same spec as BSB/WSB bikes and as for the Honda's, forget it. If he lands a top flight bike which I think he deserves you may see something brilliant. As for comparing Neil with James Ellison, what a disappointment he was this year. Neil is better than all the current BSB riders and hopefully will have a chance to prove it!!!

did I say he could be Spies and Mladin on the same bike? No. Did I say anything about the other guys being better or worse than BSB guys? No.

sdv9r

And yes Ellison didn't cut it. I compared Ellison and Hodgson on the same bike and in the same team. I didn't compare Ellison to anyone else. They rode for the top private Honda team with a top sponsor (Corona) that has been with the team for years. Hodgson performed better. Period. And if Ellison would have done anything he would have got at the very least an offer to return. But he didn't get one from his team or anyone else. Hodgson impress enough to get a factory Honda ride the next year. That's a huge difference.

Hodgson placed 2nd at Daytona this year than got hurt pretty good.
