Valencia MotoGP: Ben Spies "super happy" with seventh

Ben Spies declared himself "super happy" after he ended an impressive Yamaha MotoGP debut in seventh place in Valencia yesterday.  The Texan produced one of the most eye-catching performances of a rather dull 30-lap race to surge through from 12th to seventh on the Sterilgarda YZR-M1. The reigning World Superbike champion came out on top in a thrilling battle involving Andrea...

sour grapes eh elsa1234?

I'm sure Mr. Spies will gladly feed you crow all next year if you so desire.

And being that you say you "work in the GP paddock" (wink, wink) even you would have to say being in the top 10 3 out of the first 4 races isn't bad, eh?

Well well ,you have seen talent at last ,Spies is special trust me,and i am confused im sure you were waving a JT flag this season? to be fair how many riders pole up win the wsb title in record breaking, style pop on a moto gp bike and pull of a ride like that ? and stay cool no big noises or predictions ,look back its only your Spencers and Roberts and the like that do it ,He will win a race or two next year and he will be a future champion good luck to the bloke

Rare Breed.

What we saw at the weekend was the beginning. Spies is one of those very talented guys that don`t come along too often. Yamaha will be watching Ben very closely. If Rossi has put a gun to Yamahas head concerning his team mate, Yamaha may decide they don`t need him after all.

A fine ride indeed

and a great result first up in 7th. But as Ben himself has said he's not getting too carried away by it as he still has 30secs to find before getting within spitting distance of the Aliens. Those last few tenths of a second per lap are always the hardest ones to find. It was interesting to note just how much smoother he looked on the M1 than the R1. A bit of bike with the 'tighter' GP machine and a bit of adaption on Ben's part to ride the thing the way it needs to be ridden. Winning next year? - highly unlikely in my books - but hey wouldn't it be great. Podiums yeah he'll nab a couple.

Ben Spies

Well done to Ben Spies good start and as Edwards says those first four are aliens,so yes plenty work to do to catch up with podium places but lets give the guy a chance. As for JT hope all goes well in World Supers for him, clearly the comment suggesting that "he hang his head in shame" comes from a very talented moto gp rider who has seen first hand that he hasnt tried or pushed above and beyond the limit and has suffered as a result. Or it could be a comment from some plank who hasnt even been on a race track in anger, but watches on tv so is an expert, clown.
