Riding skills: How to ride a bike that's too tall for you

Confidence

If you're worried enough to be wondering about being tall enough to ride a bike, then the first question you should be asking youself is are you ready to ride on the road! A confident, capable rider wouldn't think twice about riding a tall bike. Most off road bikes are to tall for many people to get one foot on the floor without being creative. You have first to have the attitude that you are in control of the bike, not the reverse! Unless it's an early GSXR 750...!

One trick that someone showed me when on a tall bike for such as pulling up at traffic lights etc. is to put down whichever foot you're used to and then point the handlebars in the opposite direction by a few inches, this causes the bike to lean towards the foot you've put down by an inch or so.

Sometimes this is just enough to get your toe down even if not the whole foot.

Hope this helps.
