This video explains the concept behind Lazer's new Superskin helmet. It is designed to prevent the head from rotating in an accident. Save money on motorcycle helmets Its makers claim it could potentially convert around 20% of deaths to serious injuries, that 60% of serious injuries could be reduced in severity and that 10% of slight injuries could potentially be avoided. Dr Phillips

Make of the claims what you will, but I dug out the following on Dr Phillips:

"Inventor and major shareholder, Dr Phillips practised for many years within the National Health Service and in the private sector as a general practitioner. He later became a medical advisor within the pharmaceuticals industry and later rose to chief executive level. After running his own senior management consultancy for some years, he returned to medicine and specialised in psychotherapy."

As for the superskin, it would be interesting to see whether other research papers agree with the findings.

Food for thought, as is the lid with cooling properties.

I'd like to see MCN do a study on these new developments, which could be crucial to the safety of us all...

Wada ya say MCN?

Really glad to see this product finally on the market. I was approached several years ago to handle the naming and branding of this project (goes without saying, the names I came up with were far better than what has been agreed on! Jealous, moi?) and was blown away with the research and figures. Dr. Phillips seemed to be genuinely driven and passionate about biker safety and the properties of this technology. I can"t wait for the independent test results to be published. The implications for all our safety will be enormous if proven. Congratulations on your determination on securing backing from such a well known and trusted brand in Lazer. (Can I have that free lid you promised me now please?).

Road safety

On safety in general, does anyone know of any government (or other) research papers that demonstrate the most common causes of motorcycle accidents?

Thats a brilliant invention! It's pretty hard to argue with the evidence, but I also want to see some real independent tests, just to remove any potential doubts. I'd love to see it become a product that is part of the entire Lazer range as/when production helmets with Superskin come to market.
