Surrey most potholed county

The most pothole-ridden county has been named as Surrey. The region tops a league table with 1789 reported potholes since 2007, up to 1324 of which have not been repaired. It puts the county nearly 1000 ahead of second placed Hampshire, where 821 potholes have been reported and up to 544 left unrepaired. The table compares local authorities based on...

Hole-a-days

I hit a pot hole in the car this morning. I though I was going to need Mountain Rescue to get out of it.

Greece Is the Potholed Heaven!

Well guys i know that this is a UK magazine, but i log daily in your website and check it out even though i live in Greece. I think that MCN is really ahead of all the other competition. Anyway i wanted you to know that if you ever visit Greece you will really see what a pothole really means. Actually a month ago i saw a car falling in a pothole and then his entire car was broken and the wheel started its own course away from the car! Anyway the bottom line is that the pothole is still there even though it has caused more than 5 accidents in my area!

Damn lies and statistics ..

Dont think the table is a real reflection of fact, more  a reflection of how many people in a given area could be bothered to report a pot hole.

I agree that Surrey has the most and worst potholes. I live in Guildford. A local road called Southway is the worst I've ever come across. They did relay 3/4 of it last year/year before but the Park Barn end wasn't, It's like a Vulcan Bomer has done a raid on it. There's no need for the speed humps, It has only got about a 1/4 of the Ashphalt left on it and the concretes breaking up. It's been like that for the past 6 years plus, well before the snow.

I agree with SnailBlazer, this wont be a true reflection of the roads. I think the vast majority of pothole sufferers (90%+) would sooner say "F**king Pothole, the council should f**king sort them out" after hitting one, but wouldn't neccesarily report it.

no news there!

I live in Surrey and I'm not surprised Surrey has been named most potholed county. The roads are bloody s**t!

It should also be named most crappily lit county too. Those soft yellow sodium street lights in the dark, wet winter evenings do absolutely sweet F.A. You don't stand a chance of seeing any of the potholes or the badly positioned and , in some cases illegally high, speed cushions.

I expect the number of speed cameras in the county will keep increasing though......in the name of safety of course.

Hertfordshire?

I vote for Hertfordshire! The A505 is a derestricted double carriageway between Baldock and Royston and has several areas here you end up swerving off the usual line to avoid huge chasms that are the size of garden ponds. Not to mention the seams in the concrete of the A505 just beyond Royston going towards Cambridge where the passage of cars have slowly massaged the bitumen into the middle of the road so that its like a cross between a take off ramp and a three inch wall!

The A10 in south Cambs just North of Foxton's derestriction has a 10m stretch which is like a minefield - There is only one safe line but generally Camridgeshire's roads seem better.
