Phillip Island WSB: Checa takes the win on the last lap

Althea Ducati rider Carlos Checa won the second World Superbike race at Phillip Island after a last-lap pass on race 1 winner Leon Haslam. Alstare Suzuki rider Haslam finished just 0.3 secs behind Checa in the second close finish of the day.  Third place went to Ducati Xerox rider Michel Fabrizio and fourth was claimed by Alstare Suzuki rider Sylvain Guintoli. Nostro - on Vermeulen etc ...

Chris Vermeulen has a " severley bruised " hip so won't be doing the limbo , rumba or playing with his hoola hoop for a wee while. Apart from that, all AOK. At least no-one can say he wasn't trying - BBQ'ing one bike and then trying to demolish the tyre wall with the other ... Here we are, just one event into 2010 and all the negative, shit-for-brains commentary from the gormless undead is back already. Do they go underground to sleep in the off-season or something - or just back to their comics? Poor JT - good looking, wealthy, 2 x WSBK Titles on his shelf, musician, alleged all-round good bloke - still not good enough for the Zombies. Exactly as with their other punching bag, Casey Stoner, they just can't stand it and have to try to validate their own boring as batshit lives by slurs and personal attacks on people they couldn't hold a candle to - sheer girlie jealousy if you ask me. Way back when, quite early in the last Moto GP season, I was defending Stoner from these Zombie morons: I mentioned a comment from Sylvain Guintoli ( who had ridden for Ducati on one of the GP8's ) saying that Stoner's data trace was simply unbelievable as to what it showed Stoner did on the Ducati. In Guintoli's opinion, no-one could match Stoner and even if Rossi was put on the SAME bike - then Stoner would beat him, easily. Now, remember, I didn't say this - I merely reported/passed-on what a rider experienced on the same machine and thus well-qualified to comment had said. Some shallow, smartarse fuckwit responded with probably his best and only shot," who TF was Sylvain Guintoli ". Well, genius, now you know. Cheers

Mate...your comments/columns are becoming legendary..!I must  take my hat off to you old bean and as they say in Valencia...Salut y forza al canut!!!..finally with regards to wolfits /halfwits comments don`t you and your ilk think you`re jumping the gun a bit with regards to Toselands performance..? I realise there`s a percentage out there that are hoping that he`s unsuccessful, but your bitchy little comments are pretty pathetic..maybe he just beat the likes of Baylis ,Biaggi,Checa,Haga,Corser etc to a world title by luck or something....

1986VFR750 interested in your reply please

E.g. Wolfit Well here we go slagging of quality riders cause things do not come out right on the day I did hope that it would stop, but it has not and it will not, one of the most embarrassing things in British sport was the crowd booing Stoner at Donnington – such a shame! I always hope that Bike racing fans could be above that but I am disappointed. E.g. 1986VFR750 A little thought out critisum is good now I may agree or not agree with you and your comments about Haga but at least you have NOT resorted to insults and embarrassing slander to make a point. For the record I am in two minds about Haga but if I had to lay on a tenner I bet Haga as still got the balls {140 mph crash and still sets out to get a podium a few hours latter} he still has the same skill, but he evolved last year into a more patient rider a more consistent rider I believe he scored 450 plus points and any other year that would guarantee a championship win. No I’m not sure he has reached his peak. BUT those young guns are hungry – very hungry and there are a lot of them, problem for Haga is not him he is still good, the problem are the young pups are very hungry indeed. And a large pack of hungry pups is a very dangerous thing.

Thanks Aquarius

Finally saw a wee mention of such in mcnews.com.au. Chris the V is obviously trying very hard. This guy just does not crash as a matter of course. Not sure that over riding the machine is the answer. Perhaps eager to impress in his Kawka debut at home.

Well now, class ...

Well, class what have we learned from WSBK Round 1? Ducati and Suzuki have done their home-work and have talented/motivated riders on board. The rest must work harder but, please, don't be silly and write-off Haga, or several others for that matter. Discuss ...Thanks, Parkway - I wouldn't know the Spanish or Valencian languages from a hole in the ground, so I hope what you said wasn't too bad? I know what a paella from the same place is, though, preferably the variety that has various items of seafood in it... Here's a little cautionary tale for you about the unintended consequences of using " other " languages. I find it instructive. In the UK you have a SUV/4WD called a Mitsubishi Shogun - in the old code of Bushido and Samurai goings-on, it literally means " General "- i.e. a Warlord or commander of forces - perfectly good name to make the owner/driver feel powerful and important,eh? BUT some marketing genius in both the Australia and NZ markets decided to call the same car a Mitsubishi Pajero. One presumes this was because there is an ocelot-sized wild cat in South America which hunts on the Pampas ( reed & grasslands ) locally known as " gato pajero " or literally " grass cat ". Oh dear, oh dear - trouble is - in Spanish, the word, " Pajero "  ( correctly pronounced pa-hair-o and NOT pa-jeer-o )  is uniquivocally only one thing - " a Wanker ". Blissfully unaware, ANZAC people are driving around with Spanish speakers splitting their sides every time they see one pass - with WANKER proudly emblazoned in chrome on the flanks. To save this embarrassment in Spain and the Americas - the car was hastily renamed as " Montero " or, " Hunter In The Mountains. That Mitsubishi Oz/NZ has persistently mis-pronounced the word in their advertising for some 20 years is one thing - that they have let their purchasers/owners be so known is quite another. Ford almost made a much worse blue. For the life of me, I cannot recall the name of their Escort-sized car about to be released onto the huge Asian market. But, I swear this is absolutely true! At the 11th hour, some bright spark realised that in Han Chinese the name for the new car translated as, " he who fucks his Mother-In-Law ". A lucky escape. Personally, I'd rather be a Pajero. Cheers

first of all cheers mate...good comment. I would definitely say haga still has the big brass ones (racing to third after being taken out in warmup up), Iwould also say hes got the talent. I do feel however that his last chance was last year.  I think he will find that ducati are going to support fabrizio this campaign.  I also think that in  losing last year something died in him and I feel that deep down he has lost that racers belief that he is the chosen one.  Yes he got a crapload of points last year, but it seem like he always does enough to get close but it is always too little too late. There are too many others impatient now and while anything can happen it probably wont.  Haga deserves to be champ and i would not be upset if im wrong. Now moto gp...rossi will win but the big 4 will all shine. Spies will get a podium.  Nicky with 3rd in testing has caught rossi's interest or rather his bike has.  If nicky can prove that the ducati can be concubine to someone other than casey then I think valentino will switch to ducati.  Ducati for their part seem to be putting things in place for that to happen...livio gone; m1 style engine.  Yamaha will not get rid of lorenzo as rossi is to old to be their future(beyond a couple of years) so the incentive is there.  I would love to see rossi win on ducati and pip stoner to the title then retire.  And finally... awesome final mens hockey last night...CANADA=GOLD!!!!!!

Great start to the season

Fantastic two races :) Checa was a master class in how to overtake simply breathtaking.

Im sure Carlos's team will get him to practice his starts before Portimao as both were not very good and made it hard for himself when he didnt need to as he had the pace.

I was gutted for Johnny Rea as had it not been for the grasstrack excursion I feel he would have been right up the front (he was plum last and finished 6th only 11 secs behind Checa) and he is in my fantasy league :(

At the end I did want Leon to do the double but Checa was not gonna settle for second after bridging a gap that big so hats off to him a well deserved win.

Sylvain also needs a mention as he had me on the edge of my seat going into Doohan's side by side with Leon. I bet Francis was having a shit watching it on the monitors! :)
