tap

Welcome Elwell,on most bikes when starting from cold you can hear tapping sounds until the overhead cams get full oil flow in seconds what`s yours like? Also did the valve clearances get checked providing there not hydraulic?  Have you wound the bike up (before red line of course) without any problems.I assume you have pulled the clutch in on tickover to see if the ticking goes.

BMW

Well - your first mistake was to change the 5W/40 oil for 15W/40. The hot viscosity of these oils is identical (signified by the /40 bit) so you have achieved nowt, but I suspect that the 5W/40 would be a proper fully-synthetic, which I dare bet the15W/40 isn't.

If the BMW dealer is adamant that it is OK, what about taking it to another dealer or an independent specialist for a second opinion?

thanks, I have been back to BMW  and asked to see if they have another bike similar to ride .The cutch basket rattles like mad as well although they say thy have put a heavier clutch in it to solvethis ,its not , cant fault there service but £10,000 is alot of money .would 15w/50 fully solve this noise.and should they even make this noise
