Cops get stealth video bike

Police have unveiled a Yamaha FJR1300 stealth video bike which will be used to target motorcyclists. The 140bhp plain-back super-tourer is fitted with a high-tech video system that records to DVD and allows officers to add running commentary. The bike will patrol popular biking routes in Cheshire. Cheshire Police’s Sgt Richard Weaver said: “Officers on the unmarked motorcycle will be using...

A275

Came up the A275 from Lewes last week.  Two cars ahead of me was a large black sports tourer riding spot on the speed limits.  It was like a Bikesafe rideout - his positioning and lines through bends were standard Police approved ones.  Once I got behind him I saw he had a large tail pack fitted and a lead coming out of his helmet. So, as he was spot on the speed limits I sat behind him, with my wife behind me, all the way up the 275 and onto the 22.  Never got the chence to see his handlebars to look for additional switches or buttons but he gave me a phat old stare when he pulled into the petrol station at Felbridge.

Humberside

I believe the've got at least one if not two 'stealth' bikes in Humberside, one's a 'bussa. They don't bother enforcing unless you're doing above 85 on national speed limit stuff unless you're all over the place of course... so unless you're riding like a twat you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Nobody is stopping you from speeding.  It's just if you get caught you get a fine.  It's your choice.

Hopefully used to..

build bridges between the Police and motorcyclists not sneak around trying to catch motorcyclists at any cost.

These will be brilliant for catching anti biker motorists and I hope they are used to prosecute drivers who have a short fuse when stuck behind traffic but passed by bikes.

My advice to your mates is to simply refuse to comply with the S172 request asking for details of the riders. Both take 6 points on the chin and learn a lesson. If they weren't too badly behaved then take the chances with the lottery that is the court system.

As for the unmarked 'stealth' bikes... Good idea in some aspects but then not so good in others.

There is absolutely NO CHANCE of outrunning the FJRs on anything less than a 1000cc sportsbike. My close friend had one and I raced him on my ZX6R, anhilation was putting it mildly! Very capable machines! Obviously 'out running' doesn't really matter in this age of camera technology but I am just pre-warning everyone in case one tries to get you to stop!

Speeding is of course a mandatory requirement of being a biker and no doubt the Police are aware of this and most likely do have a little flexibility when it comes to bikers (one's I've dealt with sure have!) so unless you're a plonker they'll 90% of the time leave you alone.

Again, we're in some kinda deep dark recession so no doubt the processes and beliefs of bikers will be thwarted in pursuit of 'making money' by any means possible. The FJR and all other bikes and cars etcetera DO need to be paid for by some means or another after all...........

I agree wobblybiker and i wouldnt mind at all myself either if i thought the police put as much effort into solving crimes that take a little more effort than secreting a camera on a bike. I used to live in the sort of area where something was always going on. It was a bonus when reporting crimes in progress if you could get the police to turn up !!!  I have watched kids burn a boarded house down to the point it colapsed and stolen bikes being tyre wheelspun against a old womans door..could i get the police to turn up within 2 hours of the crime ? Could i bollocks. I have since moved areas :D

and this is new news?????????????

the police have a black firblade with camera fitted round the kent area and there is also an unmarked bmw k1300 or something or other floating round teh a13 and essex.

i've also seen unmarked pans or fjrs in surrey.

police have been using unmarked camera bikes for quite a while new the blade mantioned above has even been known to goad other sports bikes into a bit of a race then when a traffic car puls them the blade stops and shows the offending rider the evidence form his camera.

I've got an FJR1300

Apologies to all but I've got an FJR1300 and I do tend to ride at the speed limit. If I notice a queue of bikers behind me on the M40 anytime, I'll wave you by with my foot. ;-)

Super mario you have got to be tripping, the dry weight of a FJR1300 is 585 pounds add fuel and added police extras and you looking at close 700 pounds. And you think you need need at least 1000cc to out run him. I'm not advocating to anyone to break the law, but damn.

To be fair when some of the cops start getting killed in 'accidents', i think the police will back of the whole idea and just let sationary cameras and air units do the same job in a much safer way to the speeding riders, the cops on bikes and the public.
