Open or full face

Would you consider wearing an open face lid ?

Do you think they are dangerous by design ?

I prefer

open face for peripheral vision etc, but wear full face most of the time.

I wear photochromic glasses/goggles with the open face and a ski mask to protect from insects.

There is a tendency to land on the jaw in an 'over he handlebars' style of off.

In these cases your jaw is likely to be ripped from your face.

But they do look cooler on cruisers than a race rep full-face.

I wear a

Schuberth C3 flipfront. I wear it with visor up in town traffic and down when on the move. I would like to ride all the time (like in the '60s 70s & 80s with an open face helmet but the risk to your face is too great.I agree view is restricted much more with full face helmets.

i the event of an accident (touch wood, not) i'd like to have the use of the lower part of my face, better safe than sorry.

Full face too

Not only for the protection but I like people not being able to see my face.

Not that I would ever have an illegally dark visor on the road!:biggrin::biggrin:

they are for different bikes

open face for cruiser type bikes, full face for sports or tourers. but the full face is the safest by far.

Bugs

I couldn't wear an open face helmet on the bike. I was hit right in the corner of my eye by a bug the other week, while riding with my visor open and it was like a stone had been catapulted into my eye. Had water streaming from my eye and it felt like it was starting to bruise straight away. I pulled over and got the bits out of my eye and had to wait 30 seconds before I could ride off again.
Now that was at 35-40 ish - I can't imagine what it would be like at 60+.

Now I only open my visor at junctions or when moving slowly.

Full face for me

Went for a long, fast slide face down on my very first day wearing a full face lid (1976). Suffered compression of the brain, totally trashed the new helmet, but so,so pleased I wasn't wearing my open face.

I've never considered anything else since.
