Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (2005-current)

The Triumph Sprint ST is the best sports-touring motorcycle of its generation by some margin. It’s smooth, long-legged, comfortable and handsome, with a effortless power to shrinks distances with delightful ease. What's more, the Triumph Sprint ST's more sporty bent means it handles better than any motorcycle in its class.

Love my Sprint ST

I commute about 150 miles per day in Southern California on my 2007 Sprint ST. 30,000 miles, so far, and I still love the bike. The mirrors should say (objects are more than they appear), though, which is a bummer since I like to ride somewhat fast and like to be able to pick out the coppers. The body integrity could be just a bit better. The bike does rattle a bit. It is a fast and comfortable bike. It inspires confidence, and is very forgiving. The handling improved once I wore out the first set of tires (Battlaxes), and replaced them with Michelins Power2CT's. The Michelins were good but prone to flats. After 3 rear tires in 10K miles, I switched to Dunlop Qualifiers, which feel more firmly planted than the Michelins, though a bit slower to lean over. I get about 49.5 mpg. Fuel mileage improved slightly and throttle on/off jerkiness diminished a bit when I had the dealer load a slightly hotter fuel mapping. The dealer in North San Diego County did fail to repair a warranty issue which was costly. That would be my only real complaint. The only other dealer in the area does good work but is very very very very slow to turn work around. Oh yeah... the recomended maintenance is about 12 hours of mechanic's time per 12,000 miles.

Sprint ST1050

Having spent two years on the Hayabusa I admit to being a little sceptical when the wife said she 'liked that one' on a visit to the local bike shop. As the Busa was getting a little long in the tooth and I'd owned a Daytona 1000 Trumf before that I ended up buying it ... at least the 'Triumph'  patches on my leathers were again relevent. But what a bike ... in the real world it's actually way quicker than the Busa, and bends I used to take at 60 I can now flick round at 80+ without trying.  The engine is astonishing, so much torque is just sooooo easy to use. The only thing I have to say against the bike is the speedo should be about three foot across... so it's more obvious that you're heading for prison food.

Of course the wife later admitted she was only talking about the colour .... tough, I'm hooked.
