Camera bosses’ anger over sneaky speed trap shots

Speed camera bosses are refusing to speak to MCN after we printed pictures of an unmarked motorcycle used in covert operations. They insist we should have shown them the shots of the sneaky speed trap before publishing them. The pictures show a BMWR1200GS, registration number LD08GHA, with a speed detector mounted on the back.  Wales’ speed camera partnership, called GoSafe,...

Speed Cameras

I don't see the point of this article other than a continuance of the hysteria that still persists when the ignorant, that would be you Mr. Farrell, claim that guidelines are not being observed. If you read the available guidance and guidance that has been withdrawn you would find that as well as mentioning being visible when carrying out sped enforcement that officers are also allowed to carry out "covert" yes COVERT operations. And so they should. So when you are in the position of influencing the minds and way of thinking of the 100 or so who sill buy MCN hen you should really have all the facts at hand. When it is revealed that you may have known them and have deliberately chosen to miss them out of your report you will be shown to be the biased reporter you really are. There is nothing to prevent covert enforcement, covert enforcement is specifically mentioned in the guidance you refer to. Now, why do police and police staff need to wear high visibility clothing when carrying out speed enforcement? Why is it in the guidance? They are directed to wear high visibility clothing when they may come into conflict with traffic; more simply it is to prevent them being run over. It is not to give the motorist a sporting chance of slowing down because they may be exceeding the speed limit; that would be counter productive and senseless. It is disappointing that the officer in this particular incident and his supervisor felt that it was necessary to defend the charge made by MCN that way they have instead of using the guidance as intended. Just goes to prove that the distorted and selective interpretation of the full guidance is damaging. The most effective form of enforcement is a mix of overt, covert and discrete enforcement and more importantly it is allowed and fully lawful. This article is flawed, biased, naive.....oh all right it's bollox and it is why I and many of my motorcycling friends don't subscribe to this rag any more. Get some responsible and sensible reporters and your fortunes will most probably improve.

Covert Ops

There's no spin guys and girls; the ranter at MCN has said this is wrong and I have simply explained his rant is cr*p. You might not agree with the tactic, that's fine, you are quite entitled but covert ops is just fine and dandy as far as the law and guidance is concerned; so why the article?

......... and therein lies the essential problem: The police, scamera partnerhips and their supporters are totally ignorant of the feelings of the populaiton on this or any other policing matter.

But hey ? Who gives shit when they can use lies from a government department in the first place ?

I see the police in the news again today still fudging the serious crime figures downwards ? That hit the news a few years ago, still who cares hey ?

Accountability is only for the proleteriat isnt it ?
