3 points for middle lane drivers

ok slightly harsh this but its become a real bug with me.
I think police should be given the power to give 3 points and a fine to those who sit in the middle lane.
Came from Blackpool to Preston on the bike today, steady 70 and i had a clear lane in the inside lane almost all the way, there was a line of 3 cars just in front of me and all close together in the middle lane the whole 16 miles of motorway.
Had the misfortune to do a lot of motorway miles recently and everywhere its the same, doesnt the highway code say inside lane for driving, middle and outer lane for overtaking.
That means overtake then pull in if its safe to do so.
I know it couldnt effectively be enforced but hopefully the fact there is a penalty might encourage people to pull in.

rant over now breathe

What's the problem?

So you were going about your business unimpeded and the problem is what? So there were cars in the middle lane, and? If your travelling at the legal speed limit on a dual carriageway/motorway and you pass other vehicles on the inside your not going to get in trouble for it.

The last thing road usesrs need in this country are more points/fines for small misdemeanours that cause no harm to others. If those drivers had swerved into you or had impeded your progress through thoughlessness i could understand your rant and there are laws in place already to tackle that kind of behaviour.

It's a bit rich for motorcyclists to complain about the actions of other road users which had no bearing on our journey, when we, as motorcyclists, are the most likely to break speed limits (Yes i know, some of you are angels who never break speed limits)

Not that i'm complaing as i think speed limits are irrelevant, it's conditions that determine the speed not some bureaucratic made up nonsence we have now.

hates

ok first off middle lane is an overtaking lane or for moving out of the way of people coming on or off the motorway problem is people don't want to have to move from the inside every 5 minutes to let people on or off.  I dont mind people sitting in the middle lane as long as they are at the very least doing the speed limit as long as the outside lane is clear for people to over take  see problem here in glasgow is this as the motorway goes in or out of the city centre people are able to pull on and off from the fast lane (no joke something to do with the twats thought we where going to change what side of the road we drive on and just left it ) so the middle lay is god knows what in this circumstance and seen many a person lose there bottle pulling on to the fast lane.  But anyway not the point just thought would fill people in on the shit here.

question for you ergf you said they where all sitting there in middle lane for 16 miles and they where infront of you so where you sitting in the middle lane behind them?? or the inside lane ?? and if it did bother you so much you could have over took havent you learned that cars are just moving road blocks yet sounds like you where winding your self up for 16 miles cause you wanted to.

but if you want to know pet hates then has to be people going under the speed limit on straight roads (country roads) and have some how managed to create a tale back of 10+ cars making it near impossible to over take or taking a few trys to get any where near the front of it due to traffic or blind corners you know the type that sit at 35 in a 60 and then speed up to 40 in a 30.

Another thing I hate is bikes/cars over taking on blind corners its fuckin dumb  bikes cause it can easily be one less of us and a nice bike smashed and cars cause it can easily be one of us it kills as it does so.

But what I realy hate is cars that try and stop you filtering I say cars cause I have never had a lorry or bus do it in fact had them move to allow it or even honk there horns to tell the car in front to move over and let me thru.

Something else I really really hate is people who cant seem to stay in a lane they drift across the lines just enough to make you think what the fuck and wonder when the hell its safe to over take.

Well

i have this conversation a lot. I live in Germany and the lane discipline is something else! 2 lanes most of the time and the autobahns have rarely any problems.

Right lane = slower lane (still going fast in slow lane)
Left lane = fast lane

Now everyone uses the right lane and unless you want to overtake, then you get in the left lane. However you do NOT keep your ass in the left lane as in a matter of seconds you have a German driver flashing his/hers lights in your review mirror telling you to get out of the way! Now i love this way of driving/riding because there is no traffic hold ups, no one is angry because they just overtook you. It just all works.
The down side is if it goes wrong. getting hit or hitting someone at the speed in which we drive here results in an accident you DONT walk away from. It can be very bad but the Germans know the rules of the roads so most times all is well. Also the clean up crew on autobahns are quick. The fire/police and ambulance are called. They have police stations on the side of major autobahns so they arrive quickly and normally first. Now i know of cases and apparently the Germans agree that here when the police turn up they on the spot can tell who's at fault and normally will tell you there and then and then the clean up begins. All very quick.

I prefer to drive and ride here. Filtering is made easy and they do tend to make room for you and people stop for you if you have broken down. (bike or car).

Being back in the UK and driving/riding worries me and i am more cautious. This 3 lane drivers need to be educated and maybe if the learning process were more strict on when you pass your test maybe there wouldn't be so many "bad" drivers. They put signs up saying "tiredness kills" maybe there should be signs saying "middle lane is for overtaking" or "please use the slow lane" but brits i feel don't like to be in the said "slow" lane because they then think themselves as "slow".
Just educate people or

maybe take a lane away!!!

we

have it all the time on the motorway and bypasses here...the worst being bluebell hill cagers sit on the outside lane at 45mph and refuse to move over..they don't even move over for the police cars/bikes that how thick they are...and if you pull up beside them and indicate the empty lane they should be in they just look like your an idiot and carry on...these people should be pulled over educated and sent on there way...its not just them holding up bikes as i drive aswell and get the same response when you flash or us the horn to indicat to move over..

maybe they just like to have cars/vans lorries and bikes following them and not being able to get passed..probably makes them feel like they are important..or they are the people that pull out in front of you if your going faster than they are and slow you down..

3 points and a fine?

How absolutely ridiculous! pull  them onto the hard shoulder and shoot them in the face then set their bodies on fire.

However, when I,m on the bike it,s the ideal opportunity to make progress.let the idiots clog the outer lanes up as you skim past them in the miles of empty carriageway they,ve left you.perfect.

i tend to

flash, flash again, wait....

move over to the inside lane

wait.....

if they show no signs of moving and it's safe, I undertake if there's no outside lane. I go everywhere on a bike all year round because I have little patience for people who can't make progress and it's quicker. I won't sit behind a moron unless it's unsafe to go past. Then I'll swear.

If people want to get around as fast as you could go on a horse, then send them to rural China where they'll fit in just fine.

Undertaking....

on the inner lane...   I know it's wrong, but for the most part it's the only one hardly ever in use.

On the M5 last w/end it was as if the middle lane was the only popular lane.Instead of constantly going to the outside lane, to lose the centre lane mortgagees. I naughtily reverted to the( virtually unused ) inner lane, popping out to centre lane to pass slower traffic when nessasary.

As far as I'm concerned I was doing nothing wrong, just using the lanes as were meant to be, it's the F'wits clogging the centre lane that are the hazzard makers..:ph43r:.

and lets face it most of them only drive the M/ways holiday times.. and by the way..    Get some Air horns, 'n' wake the feckers up:tongue:
