AA warning over speed cameras

Scrapping speed cameras will risk lives, according to the AA. Cameras have already been switched off in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire and more areas are likely to follow due to government funding cuts. AA president Edmund King said: "The views of motorists are not being reflected and lives are at risk. People are more concerned about the battle to save lives...

a55 speed cameras

On the A55 in North Wales  their are now  cameras on both sides just as you reach the St Asaph turn off . They are not working yet as they are still working on the flyover that is causing all the congestion

I used to work for the AA but left when they were taken over by asset strippers.

The people now in charge have forgotten the roots of the old AA

For those who don't know the AA was formed to help defeat police speed traps.

The end of an era I shed a tear when I left but it was the right thing to do.

scameras

Scamera vs Police patrol: patrol can judge an entire situation, and use their discretion whether to prosecute. Therefore you MAY get prosecuted, or you may just get a ticking off.

Scameras don't do that: they simply click at a set speed, and its an automatic conviction...hence why they've become so popular...

Unpopular comment coming up.

I've been a Biker all my life and been riding bikes for almost 30 years.  Until the born again power ranger fireblade R1 generation came along we never used to have this problem. A quick glance at the story on the right gives the following figures.

BMW S1000RR* 197.29mph
Ducati Desmosedici 190.10mph
Aprilia RSV4 Factory 189.48mph
MV Agusta F4 312R 188.22mph
BMW S1000RR 187.47mph
Suzuki Hayabusa** 186.88mph
Kawasaki ZZR1400** 186.72mph
Yamaha R1 183.23mph
guyincognito is a classic example of what is wrong with the mentality of so many motorcylists these days.    76 in a 60. I think you'll find thats speeding. And if you didn't notice the 6 old bill watching you, well, all I can say is open your eyes numb nuts.

Its a bit of a change in attitude...

From the old days when the AA man would not salute you so if there was a policeman doing a speed check so you would be aware (It had been determined that making a gesture was illegal but not making a gesture wasn't)...

As a member of the AA I am concerned about this comment from Edmund. I do want them to speak out on behalf of motorists and bikers but this is not one of my concerns - I'm not a great fan of Cameras but accept them in genuine places. There are far too many that are enforcing ridiculous speed limits (e.g 40mph limits on dual carriageways!).

Spees Speed Blah Blah

In the modern world car drivers dont seem to notice what speed they are doing. I frequently see cars doing 50 in a (nat speed) 60 zone and continue at same speed in 40 zone also see cars do 40 in 60 zone and speed up when in 40 zone. The real problem is education and understanding how to drive safely and maintain awareness. The AA has vested interest in training motorists and the breaking of speed limits feeds them a regular supply of "miscreants" at the behest of the speeding system. It is all a load of old B'locks and reduces safety on the roads. Speed is not a killer, bad driving/riding is.
