If they developed every bike entirely individually, with no shared components then they would cost alot more than they do now. oddly people never seem to mention Ducati using an engine and frame for more than one bike, or Triumph, or BMW. but the second a jap make does it they are up in arms, its brand snobbery and hypocrisy of the worst kind. I don't care if every component comes from other bikes, tried and tested parts with a cheaper price isn't a bad thing.

to get excited about the 2011 CBR600F, when it's clearly inferior to (and pretty much a cheap, knocked-down version of) the 2008 CBR600F.   Makes it difficult to consider it worth more than a second hand pre-2008 model.

If you're that thin skinned about it then you're nothing more than a poser who cares nothing for the art of riding. SlowLearner - quite how you work out that the 2008 CBR600F was superior to this is beyond me. The looks are a bit off in my opinion so the old bike wins there but in terms of the rest of the bike, the current Hornet is both faster and easier to ride than the CBR-Fs that I've ridden (yes I may be biased as a Hornet owner but I ridden and owned plenty of bikes over the years and currently have 4 in the garage). If they get the suspension right then I think this will be a hard bike to beat given the good spread of power from the hornet engine and light weight. If they can keep the price down to somewhere near the hornet then this would definitely be worth the money. The current CBR600RR is not worth the money they are currently after if you actually want to ride on the roads. You'd need to live on a track and have a hefty supply of sticky rubber to ever get any proper usage out of that bike (and I say that having spent the last few months trying to decide whether to plump for the new RR8).

The headlight unit looks a bit off, but from the side (especially with a rear hugger, cowl, and tail tidy) it's a good looking bike. No-one that absolutely wants a supersports bike will buy one, but plenty of people are put off by the price of the current supersports, don't spend their lives doing track days, but at the same time don't want a dull-as-dishwater CBF600, and for those people this will be ideal and fills a genuine gap in the market.

Fair play.... That is the biggest amount of b*ll*cks I have read on here for a long while.  The CBR600RR is a great road bike, and can be used properly on the road by the right person. As for sticky tyres, you dont need super soft track tyres these days to ride fast on the road. The new dual compound 'sports touring' tyres are more than up to the job, and give good milage.

And no I aint biased. I dont own an RR at the moment, but did in the past and couldn't fault it.

If you dont want a full on supersports bike that you wouldn't be able to use, then fine, dont buy one. Go buy the Hornet with a fairing instead. But to say the supersports bikes cannot be ridden on the road to anywhere near their potential is rubbish.  And like you said, you have 'thought' about buying one...... Probably never lived with one and actually got to grips with one then.

Well i think this bike will sell in bucket loads... surely all over about 30 remember what the original CBR600 was all about, 1987 it came out and for years was the best selling bike, then it went into both F and rr and now the f returns and everyone is slating it as its not a track missile... Surely biking is about choice, if your want a track refugee go get one, if you want something that for 90% of us will be just as fast on track or road but will not leave you needing the oesteopath after 200 miles in the saddle then this is a great choice! (and yes after 15000 touring miles on things like R1's and Ducati 1098S this sort of bike is making a lot of sense!! maybe in a 800 or 1000 though for more grunt!) many top sports bikes are getting too extreme for real road use - and no, no-one can effectively unleash 170BHP safely on the road (queue tons of Rossi wannabee's who think they can!), many riders enjoy racking up lots of miles but want something sporty looking and can cut it on a track day, i think this and that new 1000 kawasaki are giving that option.

The amount of fully faired sports bikes out there now are made for the track ie; supersports, BSB & WSB.

I became a born again biker 5 yrs ago after a gap of over 20 yrs in 4 wheels. I bought a safe option cbr600 as this was the bike, i thought, would suit me. I am not a racer but a rider that enjoys a ride out but also the quick ride. Being behind a fairing helps and the riding position is easy on my back & wrists. The present day sports bikes do not. I frequently get 150+ miles to reserve(14 litres) with approx 30 more in reserve(3 litres). My riding style kept me away from the naked bikes & after test riding the 2010 Daytona675, which being a torquey triple. might suit me. How wrong was i. This led me to buying my BMW 800ST. If only the 2011 CBR was anounced earlier, i could have held back until a test ride. I could still trade my '95CBR in for the new one.
