I do really hope things work out for JT this year as I think if they don't the future for him will be somewhat uncertain for him and it would be a shame for a rider that has done so much in the past to end his career on such a low point. JT has got the tools so he needs to make it happen.

Depends how you define 2nd tier. I would say 1st tier is works teams and 2nd tier is teams running with limited or without factory support. Going on this assumption then there is 1 winner of the World Championship on a non factory bike. A certain Mr James Toseland on the Ten Kate Honda. Honda withdrew the works bikes in protest at the one make tyre rule and took them to BSB.
