Went to the official launch of the 2011 Speed Triple to see it up close. Like with any bike, it looks better when seen in the flesh. I guess you could say it's an ok looking bike, if you can forget you're looking at a Speed Triple and a Triumph... It's your garden variety japanese naked. Will blend right in with the likes of the Z1000 or CB1000. But if I wanted Japanese I would have gone for the real thing. Instead I traded in my Street Triple for a beautiful jet black 2009 Speedie and I now own a timeless classic.

Speed Triple headlamps. The debate rages on

Its fair to say Triumph don't update their models very often, save for minor tweaks every couple of years, and when they launch a new model it's usually so good that it doesn't need updating very often. But the Speed Triple needed to be updated, but at the same time retain the essence of the old bike which is iconic to say the least. I don't dislike the new bike, I agree that things have to evolve with the times but the new headlights could have been better thought out. The 'old' bug eyes are timeless and will never age, they are totally unique and I think that they could have been better thought out. I think if they wern't going to retain the ol bug eyes then they should have completely changed to a new look. Perhaps if they used the Tiger 800 headlight unit, it would look fantastic. Instead they did that then cut it in half and filed off the edges to make it twin lamps.

Now there's a thought.

I'm sorry, but.......

....the new headlights on the Triple dont do it for me.  Bring back the old round headlights !

Why are they going so slow in the nice fast sweeper ?

not fit for purpose.

i own a 2008 triple (since new)in the first six months of ownership i had lots of problems, rust in lots of areas, warped discs, stuck caliper pistons, starter solenoid that left me at the side of the road 3 times,i had to pay to put these things right,(even with around 18months of warranty left)as both triumph/dealer said id not been looking after mi bike? i,ll never buy triumph again just not built for our weather.now the starter motor is sticking.keep to jap stuff, might be a little bland in some eyes but they can take all you can give and more.

Speed Triple

If the only thing that people can criticise about the new Speed Triple is how the headlights look, then it must be an awesome machine! Don't forget, you can't see the headlights when you're riding it....

Re the triple

There's only one Triumph worth getting ; The 675R . New 1050's fetch near 20 grand in my country . A new K9 Gixer goes for as low as 16 thou , and in my opinion the Gixer wins hands down .With the extra 4K , you could turn the GSX into a real winner . Sure , the Trumpy seems to be an improvement on the old one from the write ups, but it does not warrant the price it asks for . I think the Kwaka does it the best of the three. The Days of Jap crap are well and truly buried .In fact it may have gone onto the other foot.
