Hi, just read on hmrc site that as long as your helmet meets en ece 22.05 it should be vat free. does anyone know if this is true?? just bought a new RX7GP from the bike show and the dealer charged me vat....

a lot of other protective gear you have to wear for work is VAR free, dont know about lids though. Having said that my las one was £25 so vat wasnt a great deal on it

Bike helmets have been VAT zero rated since 1974 - you can check the HMRC website (protective equipment). So any dealer charging you VAT is RIPPING YOU OFF

Just Google "HMRC VAT Notice 701/23" and it's in section 3.1 on the page.
