Yamaha Fazer8 (2010-current)

Yamaha’s Fazer range of bikes used to be all about hard-working, do it all, value for money bikes. One look at the today’s price for the new Fazer8 says otherwise when comparing it to the competition – and the fact there is the slightly bigger capacity but vastly superior FZ1 in Yamaha’s line up. But what you have to remember...

Oooops

Looks like another lemon from Yamaha....tried one out on a test run and it has nothing going for it over the 600 apart from more grunt...it feels cheap and the z1000sx is far nicer..bottom line...too expensive for what it is.

Fazer8

OK, so I think Yamaha addressed the biggest problem I have with the Fazer6 which was lack of useful grunt. I loved the bike otherwise - excellent combo of useful tank range, beautiful looks, comfortable for two up riding, useful instruments and good quality. I had mine for 2.5 years (2008) and 10,500 miles until I changed to the VFR800. I don't understand Yamaha's pricing in the UK at all - way too expensive. I appreciate the reviews (am from the USA), but don't like all the emphasis on price. Yes, in the UK it is very expensive and not worth it. But, pricing is different in every country. In the USA an FZ8 costs $8495, less than a base Street Triple ($9k) or Ducati 696 ($9k) and much less than a bandit 1250 ($11k) or Ninja 1000SX ($11k). So, why don't you evaluate the bike on it's merit and then just ding it on the price in the value category? In many ways my Fazer6 was a much better tool for the city than my VFR. Overall, the VFR is much more refined and smooth.

The perfect mix

I have owned 25 bikes over 26 years and have to say that I personally think Yamaha have made the perfect bike for a rider like me. I've had GSXR 750s, R6, R1, Fazer 600, Fireblades etc... and have now reached a point where I prefer comfort but still want the power. I had an XJ6 but it just didn't do it for me and I thought the FZ1 was too much.  As soon as I tried the Fazer8 I was hooked. We could all complain about a high price tag but it will hold it's value unlike some of the cheaper alernatives.

Well done Yamaha. Great manageable power, great comfort and fantastic styling. :)

Model history

Why do MCN list the 600 in the model history when the 800 is a new model. Most of the bike, crankcases,  frame, swingarm, brakes, are off the earlier 1000.

Glad to see gtufnell enjoying his bike as much as me. 150 bhp all up to top end in a thirsty engine isnt for me either. Apart from the rear shock lacking a click or 2 or extra rebound its a great bike for sports touring. A bit expensive but haggle.

When they created this Fazer8 review (same content as the FZ8 they did earlier) they should have copied my Fazer8 review over here too.
