Motorcycles banned from bus lanes over other people’s crashes

Motorcyclists are to be booted out of bus lanes following a rise in cycle collisions, despite not being involved a single one.  A report on a trial of motorcycles sharing bus lanes with cycles in Ealing, London, says: “Whilst there were no direct collisions between a motorcycle and a pedal cycle, it is suggested that there must be a causal...

How does one comment on this without using a multitude of carefully selected swear-words?

Any excuse!!

Why not ban bicycles from the bus lanes then there won't be any bicycle accidents in them at all. That makes as much sense as what they are proposing! The people responsible for this idea should be sacked for incompitancy. You may as well blame the pigeons!!!! LOL.

Wadda ya Expect?

Boris promised to get us in the bus lanes if he was elected but he also promised to get us thrown out of them after the spastic protests for free parking. Imbeciles wound the situation up before the bus lanes were confirmed .....what do you expect!

I agree with the consensus that cyclists should pay to use the roads and have an mot to show their bikes are in full working order. Why should bikers be punished for something, which is obviously not our fault?

@Z1100R - This has nothing to do with Boris.  Ealing Council have looked at the interim report that was written by TfL on their bus lane trial and taken the decision to ban bikes from their bus lanes rather than extend the trial as TfL did.

This will only affect the non-Red Route bus lanes as TfL controls the ones on the Red Routes not Ealing Council.

A major problem with this decision was also the fact that the Conservative Group of Ealing Council failed to even bother to turn up to the meeting where the vote for this took place, so no discussion was heard.

There is no place on modern roads for cycles full stop even on country roads where they think it's acceptable to ride 4 abreast and take umbrage with anyone who has the brass neck to want to get past them. Iv'e sat behind some of the idiots who are dressed up like refugees from the tour de france until it's safe to get past with the minimum of fuss only to look in my rear view mirror and see them giving me the finger as soon as iv'e passed. I also can't believe anyone takes that fuckin idiot Boris seriously.

What about buses?

They seem, from their comments at least, to be rather naive in just assuming it must be because of motorcyclists based on the dates of the bus lane trial. What about an increase in cyclists! And motorcycles pass "fast and close", I'm sorry but the vast majority of us keep to the speed limits, the same speed that the buses travel. Another thing about buses is that they are a fair bit bigger and louder than most bikes, if anything is going to pass close and startle a rider surely it's a bus!

They said

that there wasn't enough data to confirm whether there was a meaningful increase in collisions a few months ago.
