Rossi tests 1198 superbike at Misano

Valentino Rossi is currently testing the new Ducati 1198 superbike at Misano. The Italian is using the WSB testing session to evaluate the state of his shoulder before MotoGP testing gets underway in Malaysia next month.    Recuperation from last November's shoulder operation - to fix a motocross injury sustained last April - is taking Rossi longer than anticipated. Rossi informed us that his surgeons have told him...

All targets hit!

Ducati and Rossi are a great, intelligent, perhaps even scheming combination. By Rossi "testing" the Ducati WSB bike (F011 privateer spec.?) they are: 1) Allowing Rossi to assess his fitness without lap times being compared. 2) Increasing the perception (true or false) that Rossi is involved in street bike development. 3) Getting important feedback for their privateer WSB bike program. 4) Another large dose of Ducati publicity. All great stuff, can't wait for this "silly" season to end and the real thing to start!

Bang on

I think Mick has hit the snail on the leg here. They all know EXACTLY what they are doing. It's a few laps to see whats what. And will set tongues wagging.

Micks right!

i simply think its an opportunity not to be missed, an early training ride on top flight bike (though WSB not GP) within the top class competition, on a circuit being rubbered in, and within race like environment. Ducati's get valuable feedback from many time world champ on their other rigs, priceless for all. The package is going to be strong, but wait until GP testing then we shall really know how the year is probably going to pan out for the Italian masters

He wouldn't be on a 1198 if fit

Valid comments, but these are merely side benefits. The simple fact is Rossi needs saddle time on a race bike to evaluate his condition and endevour to gain a degree of race fitness. The 1198 is to be superceded 2012 so there's little to be gained from a marketing perspective with having a bit of invisible Rossi pixie dust thrown over it.

" which means no chance of a world title this year".

Oh dear, MCN that seems a very odd comment before a wheel has turned - if you watched him on that cart at Vroom - he looked very well to me! - more sandbags at 9 paces me thinks

Could the Rossi mind games be at work already or is this Ducati trying to shift some bikes in the quiet season. Whatever the real reason is it is true there is no bad publicity only no publicity. So once again Vale has tongues wagging before a wheel has turned for the 2011 season, regardless of the real reason he has awoken us from our torpid winter slumber, roll on Sepang next week. Ciao

It is all a pr-stunt . Ducati has spent a lot of cash on this guy so they want something for the money. Most people ie motorcyclist is interested in moto-gp so thats the reason for the stunt. The bad shoulder is there to have an excuse to not winning. But never underestimate the Rossi guy because he is able of winning.

mind games???

Simply bike time, and some guidance for the WSBK (not) factory team...

To have the clearest run in 2011 VR needs as much time int he saddle as possible.
