MotoGP Sepang Test Times

Day one of the first official test for the 2011 MotoGP season has just ended at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, with Honda's Casey Stoner at the top of the timesheets, followed by Jorge Lorenzo on the factory Yamaha, and Dani Pedrosa on the second factory Honda. Valentino Rossi was outside the top ten on the Ducati. The top ten times are: Casey Stoner,...

flattering to deceive ...

first prize to suzuki ..... i reckon that chrisg011 has it about spot on in his summary.  a good start for stoner, but with honda pulling out the stops this season, that's hardly a surprise.  no points for coming top in january, only the possibility of screwing up your season if you have a big prang, so spies is a lucky boy.  i'm not reading a great deal into these times, and my money is staying firmly in my pocket...

Rossi

...will never win another championship - he'll be lucky (or everyone else will have to  be unlucky) if he gets on the podium.

Moto Reality

Stoner was great on the first test day because Stoner IS GREAT any day!  Rossi will overcome most of the current problems with the Ducati--- will he win some races-yes, will he win the championship-no!

This year''s "aliens" will be (in no particular order) Lorenzo, Spies, Stoner, Pedrosa, and Rossi.  Simoncelli, Hayden, Dovi, and (believe it or not) Edwards, will put in some podium performances that will keep things interesting especially when "silly season" starts near the end of the year.

Looks like Rossi is not going to be in the running this year. What with his shoulder and a new bike he's losing too much time. I'm sure he'll be in the mix by the second half of the year but it could be that he'll not be able to challenge for the championship ubtil 2012.

I wonder....

.....is this the same Valentino Rossi who will line up on the grid behind three younger riders who have already beaten him to a MotoGP World Championship?

When you remember that fact then all of a sudden he doesn't seem invincible any more....

His best days are behind him and it's highly unlikely he will ever win another MotoGP championship.
