DVLA STEALING BIKE LICENCES

i am posting this for MIKE ROTHERHAM not myself ... please can someone say if it has happened to them, and how to sort it out... MCN  need too look into this...

Butt fucked, shagged sideways call it what ever you want, the DVLA have fucked up big time !!!!!!!

Saturday morning I got my photo card license back from the DVLA minus catagory 'A'.

spent the biggest part of Saturday on the phone to them and all i can get out of them is "sorry sir, we have no record of you ever passing a category 'A' test !" the Bastards have my car test in '82 but no bike test from '79.

My insurance that i took out a week ago is void, i have to pay a £50 cancellation fee on that and open a new policy as a provisional rider at double the price ( £110 ) and take a CBT another £105 before i can legally use the bike on 'L' plates again.

My options are at this moment , either say fuckit and pack bikes in or go back to square one and do the cbt, theory, part1 and part2.

There`s a possibility of getting a CBT tomorrow with a local school if they get a cancellation, but at this moment i'm just too pissed off to contemplate going back to L's

help needed for this genuine biker problem..

THANKS

It happened to me

I gave up bikes for quite a while while the kids were young, but 2 years ago, fancied getting back into it and while looking at bikes at my local dealer was offered a test ride. It was when they checked my licence they noticed that I had no entitlement A (I passed in 1981).

I wrote to the DVLA and luckily had photocopies of all my old licences going back to 1980, so I had my Full bike licence and car test pass cert, which I had copied before sending it to them in 1982. The Cat A disappeared on my 1st photocard licence issued in 2003 (I never checked it as I didn't have a bike then)

I wrote in May 2009 and started doing research on the net etc and found loads of sites where this was discussed, and almost all said it was a hopeless case trying to argue with DVLA. So I started the process of getting my licence back again by doing my CBT, Theory and had completed my Module 1 when I got a letter from DVLA to say that there was an 'omission' on my licence and they needed it back to make a change. They didn't say what the change was etc... About 2 weeks later I tried to book my module 2 and the DVLA site said I couldn't book it as I didn't need to. A week later my licence came back with Cat A back on it. No apology for the £100s I had spent, but I was glad to get it back. I will never send them my licence again, but will definitely say I've lost it when it comes to renewal in 2 years time.

Just out of interest, has Mike tried to book a theory test for a bike? It checks with DVLA's computer to see if you need it.....just a thought. Also, my insurance company asks for a copy of both parts of my licence, so has he sent a copy to his in the last few years?

Forgot to confirm timescale

Forgot to say in my previous post that the total time from writing to DVLA to getting my licence sorted was 4 months.

r6buz / the IRA

r6buz said, "Where are the IRA when you need them?"

Unfortunately, the IRA wouldn't help out here.  The DVLA is in Swansea, and the IRA never did have a problem with the Welsh

You

don't have to send your licence in just state that it is lost.

I did mine last year and it came back all correct in super quick time.

You then have the original for reference / proof of entitlements.

Online

I updated my license online ... I still had a paper license from 14 years ago!

If you update online then they allow you 10 days or so to return your old license after you receive the new one. Easy to check... fortunately mine came through just fine.

Even more unbelievable

I read a story about some bloke who kept his original licence when renewing, then when he lost an entitlement, sent the original back to the DVLA as proof.

They then said that the original was fraudulent and had him charged with having a fake document:blink:...... of course dunno how true this is.

Last time I moved I applied by internet.  You get the new licence in a few days and have 3 weeks or something to send the old one back.  So you have 2 licences for a while, long enuf to check the entitlements.
