throttle cables

i'm trying to solder some new nipples onto the end of some throttle cables but there must be some sort of coating on the cable that is repelling the solder. I've tried cleaning the cables with de-greaser and brake cleaner but still cant get solder any where near. Any ideas?

Inner cables should have a plastic coating on as a sleeve,if you are hard soldering at a high temp it should burn off.

Soldering cables

Hi Gavin

Try using silver solder with lots of flux, leave the cable end to be soldered soaking for a few minutes in thinner or easy start to degrease fray the end of the cable a little to allow the degreaser in and allowing the s-solder and flux in before and after soldering.Good Luck

Don't know

what cables (or bike) you have, I believe however that some cables have a Teflon coating internally (I think mine does), maybe this is what you're up against?
