they

will ride and feel the same. They are both restricted to the same BHP etc. Fuel injection is all about what comes out of the exhaust.

carb / V FI

I've never had an injected bike that feels as smooth as a carb. Check the fuel consumption and see if there's a difference.

If the mpg is the same then I'd opt for the carb myself as there's less to go wrong and if it does go wrong, it should be cheaper.

I'm sure someone who actually knows something about this stuff will dispute me though....

I hope FI is OK...

Just bought a V-7 for a family member

Comments below are general - I don't know about the Varadero in winter - yet.  Mostly I agree with the above posts.  Yes, carbs are simpler, can be DIY maintained, and, when fully warmed up, can be more predictable.

Many carbs do need a bit of sympathy to coax the best out of the engine - don't just crack it open and wait...  Yes, FI on some bikes can be "glitchy" but often the glitchiness can be worked around, like learning how to coax a carb.

FI does solve a real problem though - cold or nearly cold running.  Carbs can be a real pain to nurse through the first few minutes (regardless of auto or manual choke) which exactly what you don't want when conditions are cold and tricky.  Carbs either stall or rev the neighbours windows out on a cold winter's day...  When it comes to cold and nearly cold running I never met a great carb, or bad FI.

You maybe already know the V-7 and later models have a fuel reserve warning light too, so maybe less chance of forgetting to fill up and getting stranded...

bad FI

hi there, I have a daytona 955i which is fi. This is my only complaint with the bike. It will not tick over when started from cold. After a couple of miles it seems ok, but if left longer than an hour after original starting , the problem occurs again.

you've not ridden a Spint ST then

FI cackling on over-run, back firing on blips, scaring the pedestrians for a minute - wounderful
