Monza WSB: Laverty does the double

Factory Yamaha rider Eugene Laverty has won both superbikes races at Monza today after Max Biaggi was given a ride through penalty.  Max Biaggi got a good start and pulled away from the rest of the field, opening up a five second lead before he ran straight on at the end of the front straight with seven laps remaining. The race organisers gave...

poor max "not"

Biaggi got what he deserved. If its good enough for haga in race 1 then its certainly good enough for max. Let's face it . It couldn't of happened to a nicer guy. After all we can have him getting lap records like that, can we.

Who cares?

It doesn't matter where he's from, we've witnessed some superb riding from a fantastic rider on what must surely be one of the greatest circuits ever.

Great riding by Eugene, great when a plan comes together. Hard luck for Checa if he ran short of petrol on the last lap as Jack was saying. What was Biaggi thinking straight lining the chicane for no apparent reason. Rules are rules I'm afraid. Forget the bald patch hiding cap and bring the thinking cap next time Max.

molto buon Eugene

Excellent ride by Eugene, race 1 battling it out with Max and winning and race 2 battling through the field.

With regards to whether Max should have been penalised. Obviously the lap times showed that he gained an advantage by cutting the chicane. I think the point needs to be made that on other tracks if he had run deep then he would have had to ride through a gravel trap or over grass and that would have cost him significantly more time. The fact that he had an escape road he could run down was good as a safety feature, but surely just throttle off for a couple of seconds and then go, make sure it was a slow lap and then don't get penalised. He ended up gaining time by setting a time 0.3 seconds faster by not following the correct circuit layout and thereby you have to take a penalty.

Great riding and lapping faster, in both straigh lines and corners, than the GP guys. Which makes you wonder what's the point of the precious liitle Spaniards and the Moaner.

Great races..

Other than Marco getting a 4th in race one, This was a great weekend for Team Blue.. Brilliant form from laverty... absolutely loved it.. He got lucky not being caught up in the first corner wreck in race two, then worked his way up, only to run off, fall back to 9th, and then worked right back up to the front.. Well deserved wins for Yamaha... Hoping for another such weekend come May 30th.

Tech 3

Chaz Davies should be in Motogp. Perhaps the Tech 3 Yamaha ride next year, replacing Colin Edwards

Not all Good News

Congratulations to Eugene and Chas, the latter will be a real championship contender. However as regards the WSBK Title IMO, we do not have a Brit that can be consistently fast to challenge. Haslam, Laverty, Camier and maybe even Rea may win the odd race but thats about it. In the final stakes it will be between Biaggi and Malandri, less so Checa. Again Italy and Spain showing the world how it should be done on 2 wheels. I know there will be many from the US that don't agree, but there you have it.
