Only one race at 2011 NW200

Heavy rain, high winds, a bomb scare and finally an oil slick for over a mile of the coast road meant that only one race of the scheduled five on the 2011 North West 200 programme  was run on Saturday. The day opened with a rain-hit, five-lap Supersport race, won by Alastair Seeley on the Relentless by TAS Suzuki by eight...

let's get one thing clear, Ryan's bike did not blow it's engine.  he says on his website that the bike developed an oil leak - reason unknown at this time until an investigation yields the answer.

just about anything that could go wrong did go wrong on Saturday.  while i sympathise with the organisers for their predicament, it did take a heck of a long time to call the show off - surely this could have been decided a lot sooner rather than faffing about with waiting, wondering if two more sighting laps were needed, asking the riders to go on if they fancied it or not etc etc.  they'll need to up their game for next year.  whilst you'd imagine that a whole day should be long enough to get through the racing programme, i agree with others on here about making it a two day event.

Congratulations Alastair Seeley and a big thank you to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to faciliatate the event. I know things didn't work out on the day but I'm sure it wasn't through lack of effort or determination. NW2011's gone. Roll on 2012.

Congratulations to the organisers for having the strength to make a very difficult decision on the day. I'm sure I speak for all the other road racing fans here in Northern Ireland when I say that I'd rather not see a race than see someone get hurt.

Those who rang in the bomb alert have little support and nothing to offer. The NW200 has always been about people from all faiths and walks of life getting together to enjoy themselves and I'm sure that's how it'll continue, bomb scare or no bomb scare.

Bloody hell

Can those involved in making 'SAS' and 'Shoot to kill' statements kindy catch themselves on. Such policies were very effective fund raising and recruitment policies for the groups involved. STFU.

It was a shame that Saturday happened as it did, and the organisers worked under tremendous pressure. They didn'y want to call it a day until they had exhausted all possibilities. Hindsight is 20-20, but they desperately wanted to put on a show for the crowds and especially those who had crossed the water to see it.

Hopefully the UGP will make up for it all. It's a better event IMO anyway.

No Politics Please?

Good call by the organisers though I am sure it was an expensive waste of a weekend for many, most notably Stuart Easton. His accident coming before a race he was never going to participate in anyway makes me feel even more sad for the poor guy. I can only hope Stuart and his young family can come through this and be even stronger next year. Top marks to Seeley and all the lads, that takes some really serious nerve and concentration to race the roads in what looked like atrocious conditions with high winds as well. Special mention to one of my favourites, bad boy Bruce Anstey. I am always backing him as he really is special...........http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresults/TT-road-races/2010/August/aug1810-bruce-anstey-reclusive-hero/

Sad to see the event going down the perverbial drain for the 2nd year in the last 3,

Congratulations to the police for clearing such a large area in such a short period of time, I know what that entails so well done .

Cut out the timewasting guys and restrict the number of vehicles going round betwen classes as ive said many times we waste to much time

As for suggestions re another day, As they have a full day road closure on the thursday now hold a couple of races thurs afternoon and then saturday,

How can anyone justify closing 2 schools 2 days in a row for a sporting event and stop the locals from going about their daily business.

Sunday is out as it would be taboo in this country like the majority of sporting events.

We cannot hold the locals to ransom any more
