TT Preview: Now or never for Martin

Relentless by TAS Suzuki team owner Philip Neill has given Martin every opportunity to focus 100% on preparation for this year's TT - more than the 29-year old from Kirmington has ever enjoyed: four days in Spain , Kirkistown, Cadwell and Brands testing. Brands BSB, Cookstown road races before the international road races at the North West and TT. So with...

Good to see an article

where he doesn't feel the need to justify his media profile, here in spain we are getting a bit tired of the "I'm not a media tart, swear" line.

Perhaps....

being in the Taz set up and not having to do his own spanner work, he can just kick back in the van with his cuppa Yorkshire tea and concentrate on what he needs to do?

I really, really hope he can at least bring one win back (hopefully the Senior) but I fear he may just be adding to the pressure by putting it on himself too??

Dare I say the team is capable, the bike is capable and by Reckless, this year they have a very capable rider?!!

All the very best of good luck Guy but above all stay safe mate! ;)

Guy

I reckon Guy is smart, he knows a racing career isn't very long ( Joey excepted ) and unless you are a front runner in WSB or MOTOGP you won't make a fortune so the ads, TV stuff , the carefully cultivated image is making him a nice nest egg for the future.

He is a cracking bloke who is making money, good luck to him and i really do hope he get's a TT win this year, a bit of luck and he's in, every TT winner has needed a touch of luck.

I see a pattern here

Hang on Guy has been with top teams wanting to do everything for him before. And when the wins don't come he starts talking about how he likes to do his own thing from the back of a van with Yorkshire tea and all that bla. Unless he wins this year he will no doubt be back to compalining about how he likes control of the lock wiring. Perhaps that is why MCN says this is Guy's last chance of victory. But I like Guy and desperately hope he gets that win this year!

Get off his case

I'm no Guy Martin fanatic or a big fan of the tt,but this bloke has got guts and has put his life on the line to achieve his goal or dream, how many of us really stick out for that ? on top of that he has had success in the media and all of a sudden everyone wants to get his autograph or speak to him,all I know is he is clearly a character a non conformist and a man who has reached a crossroads in his life, now that may be road racing or the media or something else, but whatever that is give the bloke a break,he is about to take part in a very dangerous sport,do any of us want to bring added pressure upon him or make him want to go that extra bit to prove critics wrong and that result in anything bad ? He has a lot to look forward to and who can blame him if a career in tv makes broken bones less appealling,I wish him well in the tt and his tv career, lets just lose the british knock em down when we are jealous mentality, good luck and the 3d film was great stuff and showed a great character in Guy,a mention for Hutchy as well ,hope your on the mend

TT?

I've been going to the TT for over 38 years and looking at the sections of the TT  course where you're not allowed to spectate from is simply ridiculous...I wouldn't go to the event now for free . Forget the doomsters who say that the TT will be stopped..for me and lots of others it already has...sanitized to such an extent that sitting in a bar watching it on T.V will soon be outlawed as well. It's dangerous but that what it says about all motorsports...watch at your own risk!

VIDEO GAMES & BISCUITS ...

Well, boys & girls – I have seen some specious nonsense and hopeless onanism here on MCN - but Super Mario has just taken the biscuit. I don’t know Guy Martin and have never met him, except via the media and IOM DVD’s and all the usual ways we preview, follow or debrief each year’s TT races. He certainly appears to be a “character” and whatever one feels about his level of application to the task or the fact that he has never won a TT, one thing is clear – he is as talented and brave and as quick as any of the Top 6 guys that take on the ultimate motorcycle racing challenge. Oh that I was just 25% as good and skilled …

That’s why I was so gob smacked and then subsided into derisive laughter to witness some prissy prat who ponderously pootles around on an “old“, single-headlight Ducati Multistrada presuming to tell Guy Martin how to handle his media career and income opportunities. Quoting verbatim: “Guy needs to stop doing the films and the moody ads for Dianese and the TV programs about canal boats and concentrate his mind on one thing and one thing only - riding his motorcycle.” Can you believe this poncy little jerk?

Super Mario has very probably only ever raced to get some milk or made a clean, well-thought-out “pass” on some young lass on a motor scooter leaving the lights. He obviously ignored numerous income-producing jobs and other media & advertising opportunities so he could work hard on his focus & motivation to reach and achieve this lofty pinnacle. That he feels qualified to comment and dispense advice to Guy Martin - as if he, the magnificent & munificent SuperMario is a combo-Keith Code & Ron Haslam “how to race“School Principal, is just beyond the pale and so, so silly. It must be a miserable and oh-so-unhappy life to be so driven by sheer envy of the lives, talents and profiles of others. A shame.

Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting to you – Utter Wanker of The Year 2011–step forward - Super Mario!

oooooooooooooohh

someones got her pantyho's in a twist!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

A rather unecessary and nasty over reaction for what was a fairly harmless comment by me. Seems like someones lost their temper.

It does also back up my earlier comments that your only purpose on this forum is to stir up shit and unpleasantness at every opportunity. Well done.

Well said Stig08

I couldn't agree with you more Stig08.  Guy's a top bloke and got balls of steel.  He's not just an also ran either, he's got the speed to run with them best of them and the determination to succeed.  I wish him all the best......despite what he said in the film about southerners being shandy drinking poofs! lol
