British MotoGP: Damage limitation for Valentino Rossi

Valentino Rossi ended a miserable debut at the Silverstone circuit with a lucky sixth place as the Italian conceded he was way off the pace throughout the entire British Grand Prix weekend. The 32-year-old finished over a minute behind a dominant Casey Stoner as the progress he's made in recent races at Le Mans and Catalunya came to a shuddering halt...

no matter what we think

13th out of 15th for a man of his talent and standing is not a good day at the office, and no matter how talented or strong a character he is his pride will be smarting and his mind not at ease this is a new area for Vale and perhaps the toughest time in his career ,it will be interesting to see how he copes with the fight back, when interviewed he did seem more down and humble to me,and openly talked about wsb and cars in the future ,could this ducati be too big a job for the doctor to cure ?

Total ignorance

Wosidog...half the vitriol you aim at Casey and his Australain supporters has nothing to do with what they say or do but pure ignorant rantings about a country you know nothing about and a people who have nothing but respect for England. When I see Casey Stoner being heckled purely for being Australian I feel like grabbing each of the offenders and shoving some history books down their necks. They might then learn that Australia had provided far more to Britain than the other way around. The treament of Brooks and other Aussies in the BSB is not much better. Having followed motorcycle racing for 50 years and attended thousands of races worldwide, I can't ever recall a crowd booing a competitor. In my 48 years in Australia I have only ever seen them "boo" two times at sporting events. Both time they were booing Australians. Stick to your misconceptions about Stoner and the infallibility of Rossi, they are amusing. Stop the Aussie bashing as it just degrades your arguments to the level of schoolboy name calling.

I THINK

You'll find if i was A Aussie basher, that i would be demanding to get rid of JB and Alex Briggs from the team....

Any complaint i have with stoner is purely about his poor attitude to his racing pals....waving fists and punching people....constant complaining...no shows for charity auctions etc...

Not his race colour or creed so stop blowing things out of proportion.....

P.S

I did comment how flawless he rode at the weekend....he was head and shoulders above the rest...

Rossi was off the boil all weekend....but he still sits pretty in fourth place...

Let's see if he finishes fourth or above...if so that will be a great show...and with a better developed bike now than before..!!

This shows that they probably were running a soft set up in the dry like they did in LeMans, which failed then aswell. Stoner has shown that the Duc has to be raced hard to get those bridgestones up to temperature, he basically only binned it early in races, warm up laps even. I doubt that Stoner is the only one with the talent to ride the Duc hard, but he might be the only one with the balls. Livio Suppo I think knows this and after going to Honda must have told them that he (Stoner) had the balls and the talent to ride the Honda just as hard rather than carp on about it's power delivery Like Pedro was doing for years. That smile on Stoner face first time out in winter testing was like the chesire cat, ominous really.

STONER

Was smiling because honda brought an end to his ducati hell...

He was slowly sinking with no way to better the bike then hey presto...

Honda offer him the best bike in the paddock and he's back to winning....

Oh but wo be tide anyone who dare get in front of him...oh your not allowed to close behind him either....

He needs the space you see cause battling through the pack just isnt cricket in his book....

We have heard it all before ..

'Stoner can only win by clearing off'
'Stoner cant pass people or battle with them'

What else can you say except NO ONE can match his pace, otherwise there would be people battling with him. As for not battling through the pack, he went from 4th to 1st in 2 laps at Le mans.
Rossi obviously cannot win when he's not on the best bike as it needs a MAJOR revamp so its time to stop being a child and say Stoner can only win when on the best bike. He's done a hell of a lot better than Rossi has done so far on the Ducati. Yes you can say well he's 4th in the championship, but you dont win championships consistently finsishing in 5th/6th place. The top 2 have each had a DNF, and Vale, finishing every race this season is still 30-40 points behind. And only 7 points ahead of Pedrosa who has missed 3 races this season. Rossi is riding luck better then he is the Ducati this season, fact.

So Rainey reckons Rossi just joined at the right time. Wayne obviously missed the 2 seasons where Rossi beat Lorenzo or the 3 where Rossi beat Stoner. Not to mention the seasons in 125 & 250 where Lorenzo only won the 250 tittle and Stoner won no titles

Rossi God

Ha Ha the Great man will make you eat your words for sure Stoner had one winning championship season on the duke and i seem to remember he binned it the rest of the time. Cannot ever remember Vale missing races because he felt tired? The King will rise again

Well, until then

and it may be a LONG time, if ever till Rossi is back up front, enjoy the show from Stoner, and just hope Rossi can close 64 seconds in his best conditions.
