Assen MotoGP: Rain fails to dampen Valentino Rossi’s spirits

Rain and a cancelled practice session failed to dampen Valentino Rossi’s spirits after he made an encouraging debut on Ducati’s new GP11.1 bike in Assen today. Riding the radical new bike for the first time, Rossi was second fastest in the rain this morning, the 32-year-old clocking a best time of 1.49.296 to finish 0.360s behind compatriot Marco Simoncelli. The Ducati GP11.1...

RDB keep to the facts

Rossi hasn't risked his reputation by going to Ducati. It was his only option so why make out it was his brave decision.

Anyway, the test riders have given it a good thumping rond the test tracks and are obviously happy that it is enough of an improvement over the GP11 for Preziosi to roll it out at Assen

Given Rossi's ability, there is no reason that he should not be immediately quick on it. Let's hope it is dry tomorrow in order that we can see its true potential as the wet track could still be masking things. Hopefully not and could be an interesting race. I'll stop short of wanting him to win though.

Sour Grapes??

All down to interpretation of those 'rules' really. The fact remains that Rossi was 'officially' testing the 2012 machine, and, low and behold, suddenly find that parts from the 2012 bike appear on the 2011 bike!

The fact that they had their test monkeys cruising aroud on the 2011 bikes means fck all...ROSSI WAS TESTING 2011 PARTS UNDER THE GUISE OF THE 2012 MODEL!!!

Some guys seem so desperate to get Rossi up to speed they would accept anything......even fitting the 1000cc motor if it made him a winner again!!

Alexi

The GP12 chassis which they are now using was designed back in 2010 and features a new assembly at the rear of the frame for swingarm and shock mounts together with a swingarm

This has nothing to do with Burgess or Rossi, it was designed before they came and it was Preziosi's decision to finally throw the towell in on the GP11 and use the GP12 frame and create the GP11.1

Rossi and Burgess will no doubt work on improving this now they have a good base to work from, but the base was created by the Ducati designers, not them.

Thanks for that explanation, but I must still ask why this was not tried before? Was it seen as irrelevant development to fix the problem at the front? Or is it just a matter of timing...in that the changes would be rolled out now even if Stoner was still on the bike?

Dont fret Rossi haters

You should have all know that the doctor always have the correct diagnose, Unlike poor Racey Stacey. He who have failed badly to convey properly to his team what ails the bike. Good thing Rossi and JB visited that Ducati Factory and convinced them to make a big bang engine and left the blue print on how to design a bike based on their vast experience from Honda, Yamaha and wrapping it up with the good of the Ducati GP's.

Only a genius such as The GOAT and JB could have done this. They both have the record to back all this up. No one currently in Motogp have won more that these two. Don't be such haters, give praise when due. Forza VALENTINO For Sure you are the best ever.!!!!!!!!!

Keep taking the tablets

Milkybars, don't think many people hate Rossi, They just hate some of the myopic idiots that follow him.

You forgot to mention Bayliss, Capirossi, Checa, Gibernau, Melandri and Hayden To your list of 'set up losers'.

Oh it is funny

Seeing clueless infants like Milkybars get excited because of one free practice session. You would have said shag all if Stoner was top and Rossi was mid-pack, so why bother ?

What matters is the race, maybe you need to learn that.

In my humble opinion this nutbars is obviously an italian and quite possibly gay and would bend over for rossi. So anybody like my idea of having couple of motogp standby riders. If anybodys interested its in the suzuki to race 800 in 2012 story.
