Mystery over speed cameras with no white lines

Speed camera bosses are struggling to explain why white lines in the road necessary to convict offenders have been missing for a year. A Gatso fixed camera on the A1 has been without white lines since 2010. The lines, typically in the middle of traffic lanes, provide secondary evidence in addition to a radar speed measurement. They allow a vehicle’s speed to...

@Steve Farrell. Not all of them do, there are Gatso types that don't need the calibration lines, the piezo sensors replace them. Unless someone can provide a picture of the said camera, then it will be hard to correctly identify the type concerned. I keep a close eye on speed camera types, as I regularly submit new, modified, moved cameras & their types to the PGPSW speed camera database.

The camera is exaclty like the one pictured. It is supposed to have lines (it did have before the road was resurfaced). Transport for London have admitted this.

We Love Cameras :-)

@nc30netherton Sounds like you were caught out by a "Speed On Green" camera, which do you for going too fast through a green light... I was done twice in a week (dumb i know) when I started a new job and didn't see either flashes, the camera in question (Poole, Dorset) made over 1 Million in it's first year and claimed numerous licences! (it placed on lights on a 3 way carriageway where it drops from 50 to 30.. You'll more than likely get to do a "Driver Awareness Course" and not get the points unless you've already done in the last year (although some counties let you do two.)

Take it to Court

It's simple they don't need the evidence for the court if you just pay up when they send the letter telling you you were caught. I did fight one once and it was dismissed when the Camera Partnership failed to turn up for a second time. Talking to others this appears to be quite common, has anyone else had this experience.

Speed camera working or not?!

Speed cameras are now being shut down, I've read it on many news sites. What they don't make obvious, is which speed cameras are actually in operation and which ones aren't. I've seen a photograph of a speed camera with a red "bag" over the top reading out of order - Why can't they just do it across the country? Frustrating! Some even more frustrating speed camera facts here: http://www.speedcameralocations.co.uk/
