220mph MotoGP bikes not dangerously fast, say Rossi and Stoner

Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner reckon the predicted top speeds of close to 220mph from the new generation 1000cc bikes won’t make MotoGP too dangerous. Reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo said he anticipates top speeds on fast tracks with long straights like Qatar, Mugello and Catalunya could hit 350kph (217mph) after he got his first ride on Yamaha’s new 1000cc MotoGP...

Revelation!!

Does this mean he actually thinks the Ducati is capable of 220mph then???  For all our sakes, I hope it is.  It's a bit tragic seeing the old boy wobble about in the mid field.

It's not all about top speed... 2nd fastest bike through the speed traps in the race this weekend? Bautista on the Suzuki... & we all know that the 2007 Duc was fast in a straight line but it didn't help 3xworld champ Loris Capirossi did it?

Not all about top speed...

But it does bloody help!

You can cover over a mistake in a corner by having the extra grunt.. 800's have no room for error into, around and out of the corner... where as the 1000cc can be stood up to use the extra grunt to power out of a corner to make up some lost time if a mistake was made... You saw this a lot in the old 990 days...

Also, there was not just one line they could take round a track... they had the extra power to put down to use different lines which was good for us as it meant more over taking... I hope this all comes back with the new 1000cc bikes and going off what JL and Stoner have said about the new bikes i think we could all be in for a real treat next season!!

just wait and see, this time next year they,ll all be moaning about the tracks not being wide enough, or the straights are too short between corners,

A few more mph on one straight is neither here nor there. As has been posted previously, the extra cc's around the other 90% of the track is the important bit. I for one can't wait. Unless that is the electronic packages 'tame' the whole show.

That Ducati never appears to have enough speed anyway.

Laughing Gas.

Do you remember the first season of the 800s when Stoner ripped Rossi on the Losail straight back in 2007.

Sorry I should have said Rossi's Ductai never appears to have enough speed. The 2007 was bloody brilliant.

Thought I saw Stoners 2007 ducati (according to Casey many times that year it didn't have a power advantage or better tyres??) at Turkey pass both repsol hondas and Rossis yam in one go or maybe just the two of them, on the main drag.. Love Rossis comment that he was laughing at the end of the main drag at mugello. Remember watching faster and Capirex laughing talking about the 990s and saying we always want more power... Casey bang on for once and not making it up to boot.. Far more chance of falling off in the corners.. Nakano aside..
