Tech Three Trading Crutchlow for Smith?
by staff
Thursday, August 18, 2011

British Moto2 rider Bradley Smith mentioned in his on-line blog that the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha team is considering him for a promotion to MotoGP from its Moto2 squad next season. Smith said no deal would be finalized before the Grand Prix of San Marino on Sept. 4 in Misano.

Smith, who is seventh in the Moto2 standings, is in his first Moto2 season after racing in 125cc from 2006-10. He recorded three consecutive podium finishes earlier this season, at Silverstone, Assen and Mugello, to become the first British rider in 39 years to record that feat in the intermediate World Championship class.

The big question: If Smith gets a promotion, who is leaving the team? American Colin Edwards II is on a one-year deal with the team, while Brit Cal Crutchlow signed a deal last September for this season and 2012 with the team.

But Crutchlow's form has been dismal this summer, with six consecutive races out of the top 10. Edwards is one of the most popular people in the MotoGP paddock, and reports are swirling that Tech 3 boss Herve Poncharal is less than pleased with Crutchlow.

Replacing Crutchlow with Smith would keep a coveted Brit on the MotoGP grid, surely pleasing the UK rights holders at the BBC.

Cal

should never have pulled out of those 2 races like he did.

What was he thinking..? OK the bike didn't feel right underneath him... WTF??? ...ride throught the issues Cal you're a professional and those that have gone before you gritted their teeth and pushed on. I have never been so surprised than at those 2 decisions by him.. I always know him to be a tough little fucker. Funny... seems to have gone downhill since his practice crash and subsequent no show at Silverstone..

He's such a good rider.. Get it together Cal or you'll be back in WSB before you know it!!
