BRD hopes to top 100mph with electric supermoto

A new American bike manufacturer claims that their upcoming electric supermotard could reach a top speed of 100mph and be the ideal urban police bike of the future. The company called BRD is still working on its debut ‘RedShift’ range that’s made up of a road model (the SM), an off road model (the MX) and a police model (the PD)....

50 miles

And then what... 6 hours to recharge? Battery powered bikes / cars are not the way forward. What police force would be daft enough to employ these for patrol purposes? Or even off road use to catch people illegally thrashing dirt bikes.... you'd spend 10 miles from cop shop to finding them, would be able to follow them for 20, by which point you're another 10 miles away and have to turn back. Daft. DRZs may have a poor range but it's near 90 miles. That's poor but considering it takes only 2 minutes to refuel it's not a massive issue. These things have almost half the range and take hours to charge. It's a waste of money until hydrogen becomes mass market. All this is doing is helping develop the motor, transmission, etc.

Charge

Is that 50 mile range based on a reasonable 50mph? If you go into chase mode at 90 mph...how long will the charge last? 10 or 15 miles I'd guess.

They'd probably be used for city centre trafic policing and not much else...which looks like what the manufacturer is aiming it at, lots of use of the word "urban". They'd probably be fine used in that way.

Even

City centre policing will easily top 50 miles in a morning I'm sure. If someone drives off, you're screwed.

the horn

and as soon as the electricity is used to blow the horns and sirens, it'll run out even quicker. Isn't this low-carbon stuff a load of bollocks? I like the Judge Dredd bike - now that'd stop the tossers rioting. I am the law - blam.
