Tricky one that!

 start of it depends where in Kent you are, London or Dover side? either heading via Dartford Crossing or further west, looks like you're stuck with a bit of M25 or M11, looks  like east of M11 might be a bit of a trial, zig zagging east and west or going onto B and c roads, so think I'd be looking to go up the A10 for a bit, probably from Harlow, and then turn up the A1198 towards Huntingdon, possibly go up the A1 until Peterborough, pick up the A15 north of there and then either stay on that until Sleaford, then A153 up to Cadwell, or take the A16 from Market Deeping all the way up to the other side of Cadwell.

Hope that helps a bit! Used to live North West of Cadwell and also in Hertfordshire for a bit, but roads and traffic densities may have changed a bit by now!!
A Sat Nav set to avoid autoroutes/motorways might also give you a good route, or maybe the online route plotters, RAC or other ones.
Have a good trip :smile If anybody else knows more about the routes feel free to contradict me!
