Morrisons: Bikers in helmets assault us

Motorcyclists wearing helmets have assaulted petrol station staff, according to Morrisons. The statement was made in the retailer’s latest justification for demanding riders remove helmets before filling up with fuel. MCN revealed the store’s customer services department had said in an email that petrol fumes could get inside helmets and cause the wearer to pass out – a claim branded “impossible”...

...and piffle!

All the excuses Morrisons have come out with on this issue fail to explain why their staff were insisting on the removal of an open face helmet? Age verification, identity concealment, the laughable build-up of poisonous fumes excuse (snicker), all apply to full face lids not open.

What a moment....

The primary reason we ask riders to remove their helmets is that we are required by law to validate the minimum age for dispensing fuel......

Hold on there a jolly moment... if you are old enough to drive... you are old enough to use the pumps.

"Mum can you come down to the petrol station to fill up my car/bike as I am not old enough"  Fuckin do one you slags.

Spineless Morrisons...

How many assaults do Morrisons have when customers use the pay-at-pump service & yet they still require helmet removal?... how many staff could identify the difference between a 15 year old & a 16 year old at a distance of 20m?... when was the last time you saw a driver pull up & be asked proof of their age?*... as I said before it was a motion carried at a meeting where nobody present was actually a motorcyclist & it sounded a jolly good idea & they're too spineless to back down on what is obviously a flawed policy. "Sorry, we got it wrong" would be nice but they're to gutless to admit it.

* Of course they wouldn't stop motorists & ask them for proof of age in the way that a barworker might... it would upset too many of their main customers, the car drivers... what Morrisons seem to forget is that to many motorcyclists their bike is their secondary form of transport... they have a car & a wife with a car with a large shopping spend that they'll all be taking somewhere else. Shortsighted & stubborn... that's what Morrisons stands for.

Rule.

Judging by the range of excuses it sounds like no one at Morrisons really knows how this "rule" came about, or why. That's a good reason to abandon it, I'd say.
