Aragon MotoGP: Aluminium frame only “small improvement’ says Valentino Rossi

Valentino Rossi admitted the new aluminium chassis fitted on his factory Ducati at the Motorland Aragon today was only a small improvement after he ended a disrupted day of opening practice in eighth position. Desperate to solve a chronic understeer issue and vague front-end feeling with the Desmosedici machine, Rossi ran a new aluminium frame this morning instead of the carbon...

Regarding Yamaha, you could argue they didnt have the quality of second rider until Lorenzo came alone, and then he certainly proved that both he and the bike had the capability that Edwards was lacking.

Don't disagree with that at all, but if you took Rossi off the bike during that 2004/7 period and Edwards was lead rider, you wouldn't have said the Yam was that good. It's all about perceptions and they are created by who is doing what on a bike. The bike itself is very difficult to judge.

Honda just happen to have 2 of the fastest riders on the grid at the moment. Dovi and Simo aren't performing anywhere near those two on the same bike. Aoyama was nowhere when he rode Pedrosa's bike (I can't accept that he wasn't used to it and it was a step up. Stoner performed on it from his first lap in testing coming from a different make) Take Stoner and Pedrosa out of it and does the Honda look that good?

The GP11 design isn't perfect obviously, but you can't help looking at what the satellite teams are achieveing at times to make you wonder if persisting with the GP11 would have enabled Ducati to have made some progress in ironing out the set up issues. At the moment, they have GP11 data coming in from the satellite teams, GP11.1 from Hayden and GP11.?? from Rossi. What a mess.

Rossi had the equivalent of many practise sessions on the new bike in Mugello testing and still there is no progress. People will say but it was the 1000 bike, therefore no use to this season's 800. So how does treating the rest of this season work as development work when he is riding an 800. By the same logic the data from that should be no good for the 1000.

Rossi.....

Is to blame for his own shocking performance. There is no question about this now surely. Karel Abraham is 2 tenths ahead of him and he's riding the oldest version of the Duke out there. If its the bike, how come Hayden is in 6th and RDP in 10th? Are they on Ducati's? I'm sure they are...Abraham's still has those gay little wings on it! Look, I like Rossi, he's a legend. But him and the Duke are just not made for each other. It simple. And obvious. And Sydneychris..........You have your own issues to sort out mate.....Seriously.

Since Rossi's introduction to 500/motogp he has never ridden a dog of a bike till now. This proves that he and his team have always had good bikes given to them and due to Rossi's leading skills and ability he has shone above the rest.

In 2000 he recieved Doohan's ride and come 2nd behind KR 3rd was Biaggi .The Nsr won 6 straight championships 5 by Doohan and after Doohans departure Creville finally won.

The 2001 season Rossi / Honda 1st then Biaggi/Yamaha  x2 Honda's x3 Yamaha's then Honda's.

2002 x3 Honda's x3 Yamaha's in top 6

The Yamaha's and Honda's have always been on top all they needed was a good rider to shine.Rossi and Burgess are probabally the best at setting up a bike and Rossi excelled at riding, but it has know been confirmed that Rossi is not a bike engineer or designer just another talented rider that will struggle on a crap bike
