Valentino Rossi to test deltabox aluminium frame

Valentino Rossi will test a conventional deltabox aluminium chassis on Ducati’s factory GP12 machine in Jerez later this week after the Italian’s woeful 2011 continued at the Motorland Aragon. The new frame is similar to the concept used by Ducati’s Japanese rivals and it is the latest in a long line of radical changes introduced to give Rossi a bike he...

On not being like everyone else

Ducati have always gone their own way, 90 degree V-twin when everyone else was going for narrow V twins or 4s. Desmo valve gear when everyone else was still using springs or pneumatics. Steel trellis frames when everyone else was using aluminum delta boxes. Single sided swing arms when all but Honda were using double sided. So the change to what"the others" are using is massive for Ducati. Hopefully it won't upset the Ducatisti buyers and it will get results. Remember, it is not just trying to get Rossi happy with the bike, it is trying to develop a bike that any of the "aliens" can win on. Casey's amazing talent was a double edged sword for Ducati, yes he got great results, but his talent covered some serious short comings, namely a chassis that is too rigid and gives limited feedback from the front wheel. Let's hope they get it right, they have the most bikes on the grid!

Yes .... RIP to the Duc GP10, GP11, GP11.1, GP11.2, GP 12

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu, Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu. Time to get down to what is best for winning at Ducati and not their exclusivity in engineering.

Win on Sunday sell on Monday is the new motto. Wish you luck at Jerez Rossi and hope that you kill the 800cc record with the GP12.

How is this possible?

I dont see how Ducati are coming out with a new frame every couple of weeks. Furthermore, I cant believe DORNA are letting Rossi test it with Ducati saying that its a GP12.

Old subject about testing.

The answer comes directly from the horse's mouth. In an email exchange with MotoMatters.com, MotoGP Technical Director Mike Webb has revealed that his office (in charge of ensuring compliance with MotoGP's technical regulations) has been closely monitoring the tests of the 2012 machines.

Resources vs. Results = Ducati vs. Suzuki

Taking aside all the gossip and attention from red team this comparison seems to be interesting in 2011. Comparison like that is yet to release.

Agree with you totally, i bet the media aren't allowed to get too close - If anyone scratches the paintwork off they might just see Yamaha written underneath.

Welcome to the Ducati M1.

adam15...

They're quite entitled to test it as the GP12... to test it/use it with an 800 engine would make no sense at this point in the season & would require yet another engine with it's corresponding pit lane start.

There are more tests allowed during this year for the teams to develop the new 1000 bikes but fewer winter tests so the teams would be well advised to use them to the full while they can... don't use 'em you'll lose 'em.

P.S. since they already tested the GP12 with a carbon frame, a replacement ally frame & now a twin-spar is it already technically the GP12.2?

Testing

I want to watch close racing and have ther best development that may trickle down to my road bike - so let them test - This has been a terrible season, hats offf to Stoner but not much of a championship, if we get BMW, Aprilla, KTMs even a Trumpet on the grid it will be far better than the same old same old.

As for Mr Rossi, love him or hate him he has done wonders for the sport win or lose and how boreing would the series / theboards be without him?

All this does..

..is heighten the lack of commitment Ducati showed to Stoner over the last few years. Perhaps if they'd made these investments sooner, we wouldn't be having this discussion!

Ah the excuses just keep coming

Cop a load of this from autosport. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94679.

So now according to the man himself he is slower than Stoner because he is taller. Even more incredulously he thinks Hayden is tall. WTF!?

Are you telling us Valentino that your fairy godmother (Burgess) doesn't have the bar, footpeg, seat relationship measurements from your Yamaha days, and that all this time of demanding new frames from Ducati you haven't even managed to get your arse in the right (and comfortable) place?

There goes another piece of your credability flying out the loo window. Pathetic.
