Brands Hatch BSB: Hill takes championship in photo finish

Tommy Hill has won the 2011 British Superbike championship after beating John Hopkins in the final race of the season by six thousandths of a second. With just two points separating the pair going into the race, each rider knew all he had to do wrap up the title was finish ahead of the other. Hill was stuck behind Hopkins for the majority of the race...

Well done Tommy

Great to see Tommy take the crown after so many ups and downs in his career. I remember watching R6 cup with him in, a big character then and he still is.

His time in WSBK was bitterly disappointing but with this crown I hope he gets another chance in WSBK with an English speaking team, maybe Paul Bird will take him on in GPs??

Even the seriously annoying, smirking, constantly-frowning-into-the-camera, Tony Carter didn't take away from my enjoyment of the spectacle - although when he butted into Tommy's tribute to Craig Jones I felt like switching off the TV. Like others have said I don't know how he manages to hang on to that job - has Charlie Hiscox not got a face for presenting, he seems to be the bettwe interviewer!

What a day's racing though, Seeley was marvelous, gutted for Wilson and all the support racing was exciting too. Don't know how but I had adrenaline rushes throughout the day just sat on the sofa!! Well done to all involved in the series.

I agree with mattleon, Hopper was too conservative, he should have brushed Ellison aside as early as possible and made things as hard as he could for Tommy but I feel that as long as he had Tommy behind him he was never gonna risk throwing it all away unless he really had to. I really wanted Hopper to win this championship, he really is a class act but congrats to Tommy he showed some real balls on that last lap

Just read a couple of stonerfans comments, what a load of rubbish. I actually thought you had more sense than that after reading some of your motogp based comments but you've let yourself down i'm afraid. Hopper was just showing that he was here to win the championship and not ride round looking cool and collecting his paycheck. That guy was gutted, it pissed me off a bit that some twat (carter) shoves a mic in his face literally as soon as he'd taken his helmet off. Tell ya what TC why dont you get them to fit pillion pegs and seat, then you could conduct the post race interview on the slowing down lap you prat

My heart said Tommy (he's from my neck of the woods) but my head said Hopper. I'm glad i was wrong.

Many things happen over a season to many riders and for many reasons, but for a Championship to be decided by 2ft in the final race in any class is epic. Unlucky John. Well done Tommy.

Followed

em all for the last few years, BSB, MOTOGP and WSBK and was fortunate to attend Silverstone GP n WSBK and Croft this year. Gotta say it so far has been the best Race I have ever seen in person or on tv.

Emotions run high and all riders -  victorious and defeated, behaved with dignity and graciously.

How anyone can knock these guys for being passionate about their chosen sport is beyond me. My guess is they probably don't have a competitive bone in their body!

Don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes!

Well Done Tommy, Hopper, Seeley, Wilson and all the riders in all the series that provide us with this entertainment. Credit where credits due. Thanks guys:winkie:

As Whit said while commentating.........................'This is two blokes racing'. Sums it up for me.

As for Tommy being 'a bit of a knob'. This is a sport 'chimney' where there are no judges, just results. I guess you enjoy X Factor? Thought so.
