Triumph Speedmaster (2011-current)

Considering the price you get a lot of bike for your money. This ‘junior cruiser’ doesn’t feel like a lesser bike; it’s not underpowered, doesn’t feel budget, is cool and still has big bike appeal. So good and such value for money I’d question why you’d want anything bigger unless you’re a dedicated big custom fan.

BORING !!!

If MCN had it their way, no one on Earth would ride anything other than a Triumph.

Having ridden a number of Triumph lately in search of a new bike; I think its time I found an impartial publication to read.

The America and Speedmaster are both very pretty bikes but they just don't feel like a cruiser should. They're standards dressed up as cruisers. They go well enough and stop and handle better than most other bikes in this class, but if you want to get anywhere near the heft and low down grunt of a proper cruiser then a V-Star 950 or, even better, a Vulcan 900 is what you want. In fact Triumph have tried so hard to make the new Speedmaster look like the Vulcan 900 Custom it's embarrassing. If you just want the look and the Triumph badge, then fine. But the Japanese V-twin cruisers have the sound, feel and tractability that cruisers are all about. And even mentioning the Triumph in the same breath as a Harley is daft. I don't see how anyone who'd ridden both a Speedmaster and a Sportster could think they were comparing like with like.

Worst MCN Review Ever?

Wouldn't normally bother posting just to moan, but the content of this review is surely as flawed as most of the spelling.  With the job market the way it is, surely MCN don't have to stoop to these journalistic depths.

Using the cliche '..does what it says on the tin' should be a sackable offence in itself!

Anyone actually notice that these things sound like a (muffled) sewing machine, have possibly the most ironic name of any motorcycle, & even if they'd been produced 40 years ago still wouldn't have turned heads?

Four & a half stars though huh?  I can only surmise that they let you keep the bike & you're trying to flog it for the best possible price!

Clueless

The quote of 'it does what it says on the tin' was cringeworthy, as was the poor writing, but the score is justified.

The speedmaster was great on carbs and likely even better with injection.  The standard cans are muffled and wet, but change them for the TOR exhausts or such like and this bike sounds amazing.

This bike does not excel at any one thing, but manages to do it all well and so be a very enjoyable and rewarding bike to ride.

As for MCN being biased toward Triumph BS!  Triumphs are consitantly some of the best bikes I get (trader),  and I am always glad when they come in, I know they shall be good and that they shall sell!
