What IS an adventure bike anyway?

I agree with the Tiger comparison being wrong. Can a Tiger do 80mpg? It may be suitable for inexperienced riders as it doesn't go ridiculously fast, but it seems it's for people who use their bikes every day to beat traffic and (hopefully) be more economical than a car. As long as it's able to quickly overtake at the 50-60mph range, then I reckon it's a winner. And what is an adventure bike anyway? Do they use the term instead of 'Commuter' because that sounds too dull? Are people really going to get one because they want to do some trail riding? I doubt it. Good economy, decent performance, comfortable and good weather protection on a bike. Why has it taken so long?
