Alpinestars airbag suit in action

We've just seen the new Alpinestars Tech Air Race airbag one-piece suit in action; here's a short video clip showing our senior road tester Michael Neeves wearing the suit during a test inflation at the MCN offices. The suit, which contains sensors, inflators and shoulder airbags, wirelessly activated in the event of a crash on track, is available in the UK...

£5400 I know you are'nt supposed to be able to put a price on safety but £5400 is enough to buy a brand new CBR250 (as second bike maybe) insurance leathers and helmet and still have change. As yzf07 said WTF.

Air Bag suit

Looks like AlpineStars are getting rich, early adopters to pay all the development costs! Actual manufacturing costs will be quite low. The money is in the software.

Not in the real world

That's great for the track when you're just going to come off and slide into gravel (and it wouldn't have saved Simoncelli either!), but in a t-bone smidsy with a car, that will do bugger all good! So even if it did come down to an affordable (sub £1000) price I wouldn't be interested.

An air bag suit for the road is gonna have to go off with you looking like the Michelin man afterwards if it's going to be any use.
