21 bikes on 2012 MotoGP grid

At least 21 bikes, including nine 1000cc machines featuring tuned production-based engines with prototype chassis, will contest the 2012 MotoGP world championship. Next year’s grid will be made up of 12 prototype machines entered by Honda, Yamaha and Ducati, while the rest of the line-up will be completed by CRT machinery, including the Suter/BMW to be ridden by Colin Edwards for...

2 races?

2 races rolled into one. It's all a bit disappointing really to think that there still aren't even as many bikes as F1 cars on the grid. Maybe now is the time to think about changing the points structure to only awarding them for top 10 finishers.

At least we'll have a fuller grid to look forward to and so many more 'incidents' in the first lap or so. That aside, we'll have to get used to seeing backmarkers after 10 laps and 'probably' lots of over-stretched proddy engines going pop. We all know it'll be the usual suspects battling for the top places but i'm looking forward to some great mid-pack battles. (as long as they get shown!)

It's worth a try.

progress

Seems that if you havnt got a honda or yamaha protype you got no chance. I know the prototypes are supposed to be the cutting edge but in the present economic climate wouldnt it have made more sense for every one to ride crt bikes. it would work out cheaper. better racing plus the bikes are more like road bikes so more sales for manafactures . plus it might have been possible for a WSB against motogp race if they could get over the politics . You motogp guys should take a closer look at WSB or BSB and before you say stoner and lorenzo are qicker riders i think your right but are they the better racers.

No Norton

Yep you missed the article in MCN stating Norton have postponed its motogp plans to catch up with the back orders of their production line. They are a bit behind and are getting some complaints from customers who have put a deposite down.

A 12 Bike Grid?

In effect they are saying that a 12 bike race will be great for the sport. Utter nonsense! I'd rather see a one engine prototype series with teams allowed to aquire their own chassis than to see 6 guys racing and 15 also rans on inferior machines. Either that or just combine the WSBK and MotoGP series until the money starts flowing again.
