Yamaha not worried by Casey Stoner’s testing dominance

Yamaha has said the impressive speed shown by reigning MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner in winter testing is not an early cause for concern ahead of the start of the 2012 campaign in Qatar next month. The Australian has ended both 2012 test sessions at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia with the fastest time, despite his worries about a persistent chatter...

Well finally we have it

Credit to you for that Wosi, you had a go at backing up your view.

But

The Honda had/has the potential to win, as you say. So does the Yamaha, so did the GP10/11 (12 is an unknown quantity at the moment) The difference is, who is riding them. They don't automatically turn any rider into a winner. The rider needs to have the ability to extract that potential from the bike. Stoner did that, the other Honda riders couldn't do it in 5 years. Rossi did it on the M1 whereas Edwards was nowhere near. Lorenzo was also able to do it on the M1

So, you've proved the contrary point rather than your own - the bike does not give the rider the championship, the rider needs an able bike but has to fulfill the bikes potential. Some can, some can't. In your own words - If not for Lorenzo and the tragedy at Sepang..it could easily have been a whitewash and if Jorge and Val had been on one..it would have been.

You're a bit wide of the mark on this one - Casey had to ride it..just like 2007, but to argue it was shite and only the Aussie made the difference is fanboy poppycock..and you know it.

Whoever said it was shite? Just that no-one apart from Stoner got the most from it. He did make the difference - as did Rossi once, as did Lorenzo - see previous comment...

Tummy bug  -  Tenuously used by Wosi (again) to demonstrate that Yamaha need not be that wary of Stoner because if Lorenzo pushes him hard he will buckle under pressure and revert to his previous ways of bailing out and throwing a 'sickie' when he can't handle it.

RdP incident  -  Brought up by Benny on one of his meanderings

Despite my numerous efforts to get back on thread (which you don't mention), it seems that in this crazy free world people talk about anything that they feel like - maddness .................

Maybe time for an 'open thread' during the long bleak months?

Are you listening MCN? Do you care?

MAT OXLEY ON CASEY STONER:

For those that haven’t seen it, Oxley wrote a “glowing” piece on Casey Stoner in the February issue of BIKE magazine. I quote verbatim just a very small part of this: “He doesn’t hang back and pretend to make a race of it and why should he? That’d be like Brazil allowing England to score a couple of goals to cheer-up a football game. In other words, ludicrous. Neither does Stoner do theatrical victory celebrations and nor does he ask us to follow him on Twitter. He’s a connoisseur’s racer (thanks, Mat), he doesn’t want you to like him, all he wants is respect.”

The motorcycle media have certainly changed their tune on Stoner now they fully realise the handicaps he overcame to go so fast to place in & win so many races with Ducati. With Honda there is no doubt he has more than proved his point & his place as a bona fide “great”.

But what do we get? Irrational “haters, knockers & resentful, jealous dopes” that dredge-up negative & totally disproven “psycho-babble opinions” from years ago - & even try to use “statistics” showing their “hero” winning “more”– like, the 9 years between 1997 to 2005 -  when Stoner was still a child of 11-12, or just a kid competing in 125 & 250. These are “Apples & Oranges” comparisons – illegitimate & illusory - so much unadulterated bullshit. This is believed by fantasists & reality deniers of the worst kind – consider the flakiness of those who keep trying to foist this crap on others.

Add up that litany of contradictory, irrational or simply silly opinions, and it’s enough to make anyone with an ounce of nous suspect many bike fans are, well, not entirely sophisticated or rational.

“The first lesson you learn as a pollster is that people are stupid,” says the Head of a US political polling firm. “I tell a client trying to make sense of numbers on a poll that are inherently contradictory that at least once a week.

It is akin to some Republican primary voters still questioning the US President’s religion and nationality. This shows an alarming & mystifying willingness to turn issues that should be factual or non-factual into opinions. Shown Obama’s birth certificate, they’re just going to say ‘well in my opinion he’s not a real American.’ It’s not about the birth certificate; it’s about expressing hatred for Obama in any form they can.

It’s just the same for some with Casey Stoner. Ignore the obvious talent & success – just play the man, every time a coconut. How did we become so “polarised” & implacably shallow & silly? These dolts are the modern equivalent of an eclectic mix of Troglodyte, Luddite & Village Idiot. There is nothing anyone can do to try & educate a closed & simple mind... Cheers

PS: apologies for the Brand & Bieber thing – almost chucked into my IOM Doohan Replica Arai just thinking on it...Sorry

Lee Oxmat!

That'd be one of the few compliments Oxley has ever given Stoner, their relationship is well known to be prickley at best. Come to think of it, when you see writers like Michael Scott (praised by BillyBallBreaker earlier on) sucking Flo's sav to get a foreword in his latest book of bullshit just to sell copies to the yellow muppets, then you've got to question their 'unbiased' and 'professional' opinions.

Actually, there's only one so called unswayed journo who is a bigger Flossi arse kisser than Oxley and Scott, can't remember his name, but I think he runs a site called MotoMutters!
