is that in all or most sports.....it's down to the talent of the athlete. you don't hear about the cricket bat or ball doing too much shit, the football, rugby ball, golf ball, basketball, tennis ball, tennis racquet, golf club etc.. being from another dimension.
Only in racing you get all this shit like NexGen electronics, DCT, inclinometer, consisting of a collection of gyroscopes and accelerometers, ASIMO, the Honda robot (WTF!) whose technology can tell if he is leaning over too much in any direction and correct him before falls. Imagine that technology on a bike and what that does for a rider. Stoenzo did not fall last year so we know it really works.
Are we really looking at rider talent anymore? Can the new generation riders really be compared equally to Doohan, Lawson, Rainey, Ago, Schwantz, etc... era? If you put a Depuniet, Bautista, Barberra on these Factory bikes will they be like Dovi, getting 2nd through 4th every race or will they best Pedrosa, Stoenzo, Glitterboy, Rossi?
I am inclined to think that they will be up there in 2nd through 4th. Maybe it's time we return racing to more talent from the riders than talent of the factory. Research and Development will do just fine and trickle down to the showroom, it does not always have to come from racing.
As it is right now, the CRT's, and ART's does not even cost as much as one little ECU from a Factory bike, much less the whole bike. Those riders on the CRT and ART should not be laughed at as the ride around 2 or 8 seconds behind. They are doing it with 1/10 the technology and cost (guessing here), but there is no denying the talent there to stay on those bikes and go so fast.
