Cheap 125cc for 17 year old

Hi all,

I currently have a new Honda Vision 50 that I use to get to college and back (15 miles each way). I turn 17 in May and am looking at getting a second hand 125cc bike for the same purpose. My current bike is very expensive to insure (£500/year and £600 excess).

Can anyone recommend a good relatively cheap (I'm hoping to sell my Vision bought for £1600 new 4 months ago, and use whatever I get from that for a second hand bike) geared 125cc bike. I would like something that's easy to ride as I have not ridden a geared bike before and am a bit worried about it. Also I would like the bike to be cheap(er than my current bike) to insure.

I am looking at a Honda CG125 as I have heard theyr'e very reliable and economical, aswell as being very cheap to insure.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Finaly is there anything I can do to reduce the cost of my insurance in anyway?

Thanks

Aaron

Don't know...

Perhaps discuss with your insurer or get a number of quotes. I wouldn't have expected a Honda Vision to be in a very high insurance group so I don't know that you will be able to save much money by buying something else and you will probably find most 125s will be higher... (The CG125 is cheap to insure compared to most bikes but might be more expensive than a moped).
A lot of 16 year olds have accidents so riding a relatively expensive one might be effecting your price. You may need to go Third Party Fire And Theft instead of fully comp for a few years (assuming you are fully comp!)...
Get a couple of quotes for whatever you are considering and good luck...

CG will run forever, and cost peanuts to run, loads of spares if you need them, and cheap to buy.

Your Vision may be expensive to insure because its new (higher value to pay out for an insurer), the CG's will be older so *may* be cheaper than your new 50; all you can do is ask your insurer.
