"I didn't see you"

In April 2009 whilst riding my bike I was involved in an accident. I was travelling on the A515 between Ashbourne and Buxton, in Derbyshire. I'd seen the van approaching from a minor road to my left and instinctively slowed – in case the driver hadn't seen me. The fact that I was riding a fully-dressed Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic with more...

I didn't see you

My next door neighbour tail ended me last year. She said she didn't see me, but luckily I'd left the bike at home and was driving the Jeep. There's no hope for some people. Its not the fact you're on a bike that they hit you, just the consequences are worse.

Not just 4 wheels...

Granville - really sorry to hear what happend, I hope things get better for you (I'd sue the a%%e off of the van driver, or send some mates round to show him the error of his ways) Unfortuantley, there are too many idiots on the road. I had a near off involving a fellow biker last week. I was waiting to turn right into a side road (indicator flashing nicely). Traffic was moving on the inside of me as it was a wide road and Mr Blackbird pulled out to overtake the cars and nearly ran into the back of me, but managed brake hard. It was broad daylight and I was wearing a hi viz jacket. Me- "Jesus, WTF were you doing", He delivered the classic line "sorry didn't see you". I just shook my head and laughed ironically (ride a 1000 Vstrom and had the side boxes on at the time).

take care

There is a documented phenomeno known as "look but don't see", which seems to afflict perhaps more drivers than we might think?

Time for the eyesight test for driving to be tightened up, I would suggest.

Didn't see you

I'm sorry the I didn't see you line doesn't wash with me, roughly translated it mean I couldn't be arsed to look properly, every car driver should be forced to ride a motorcycle or moped for 6 months, it would encourage them to look more closely at the road.

I was riding past traffic the other day and a guy moved towards the middle of the road as I was approaching, there I was just going to have a go at him and saw he was texting on his phone yes texting, so I didn't have a go, I kicked his mirror off instead

There is no effective eyesight test for driving, you can self certify your eyesight as fit to drive until well into old age.

Its complete bollocks that people who need sight correction can go out on the raods without it..

I noticed that my distance sight was a little fuzzy and, even though my optician says im well within the legal parameters to drive i have now chosen had some driving specs made up and the difference that they make is fantastic.

It is high time that mandatory eysight tests were introduced for driving/riding and the requirement should printed on your licence so that it can be checked at the roadside or if a driver/rider is involved in an incident.

SMIDSY? - in many cases its more likely that they couldnt see you.

They couldn't care less

I i drive a moped to college daily, it is fully restricted with a maximum speed of about 33-35 mph and yet i pull over slightly when it is safe to do so, so that a car can pass if it so wishes and yet still today 3 cars all at the same time 1 a taxi! passed within centimeters of me the taxi's wing mirror actually hitting my elbow and yet he beeped and swore at me ? i was about a 2 feet from the pavement on a 30mph coastal road doing 33mph, the taxi had also just tried to over take me as i was going past an island in the middle of the road? What is wrong with them.
