best restricted bike(33bhp)

what do you people think the best bike (33bhp, restricted or not) for a newly restricted licence holder to have? I am currently looking at the kawasaki zx400r (2000). whats your view on this?

Restricted bikes

If you search back through the forums you will find that there is a lot of info avaiable on this subject as it has been raised a few times before.

The general viewpoint is that twins (SV650 and ER6 etc) give a better ride when restricted compared to a 4 pot bike.  This is because the power-characteristics are better suited and you retain more torque.

Singles

How about a Honda XR400? Bulletproof engine and fun to ride, cheap running costs and you could make it into a super-moto. Or an MT500 Armstrong? Lots of old thumpers that might qualify- SRX400/SR500/XT500SP370/DR400/XT350 etc.

Personally I'd rather ride a 30bhp single than a 70bhp twin/four restricted to 33bhp.
