Colin Edwards: “My two big choices were Vermeulen or Haslam”

Colin Edwards advised his Forward Racing MotoGP squad that Chris Vermeulen and Leon Haslam were his preferred options to replace him during next weekend’s French Grand Prix at Le Mans. The Texan will be absent from the French round after breaking his left collarbone in five places following an unlucky incident in Estoril last weekend. Edwards was cruising way off the racing...

We're going that way

The CRT rule is an attempt to prize the grip of the big manufacturers off the sport. Eventually moto gp will be more like a cross between F1 and wsb but without the homologation rules. My only concern is the rev limit. F1 limits revs at 18k. Insane for a 2.8 v8. Dorna want to limit moto gp at 15k that's really not that far iff a road bike. Too far if you ask me?

Good call...

... by Haslam... offered a one-off ride on a 2nd league bike... I'd like to have seen him ride it but he wouldn't have been battling for a win, he may well not have been the 1st CRT, & the Haslam haters would have another reason to slate him... add to that the danger of getting injured & how well he's doing in WSBK & it's a no brainer.

@lorenzo99. I'm guessing you are new to watching bike racing. Colin doesn't need to try superbikes, he is already a double world champion with them.

I really dont think that prototype racing is very good value for money or even very exiting to be honest. For me Moto 2 is an amazing success & for Moto GP to follow suit but with 1000cc engines would be fantastic.I want to see close, competative exiting racing end off.

Good call bud. Just one thing.........................should Stoner/Vale/JLo/AN-other walk away with the win meet after meet, what then? Where does it end?

age limit

Forget about an age limit.  It is against the law in many places.

Still, nice to see Chris Vermeulen get the ride.  Edwards better hope it doesn't rain at Le Mans.  Vermeulen is one of the few riders who have something special in the wet. edwards might never get his ride back.  CV's  win for Suzuki in 07 was a wet race lesson to remember and certainly a high point for a fast fading Suzuki.

Whoever sits in for Colin will be on a bike they've never ridden before, as such whatever we see from them will be nothing like a true representation of their potential on the bike. Colin may have only done two and a bit meetings on the bike, but he's done plenty of winter practice laps too. Whoever takes over won't have that behind them. I can't see that Haslam would have wanted to risk his WSBK season just to put himself in that position. Vermeulen however doesn't really stand to lose much, but has the potential to gain a lot by impressing the right people.

If standard engines were introduced, and the manufacturers were allowed to make any engine they want up to a given HP limit say 250-260, with say 24L of fuel, the engine's wouldn't be too expensive at all. Then they can run a Moto2 type series but with correspondingly quicker speeds etc. Dorna f*&ked things up when they stipulate stupid things like 6 engines per season only and 21L limits. That's what makes engines expensive. This whole mess wasn't created by Honda or Yamaha, they simply adapted to the stupid rules better than their competitors.

Whoever rides Colin's bike would only be doing it to please the sponsors. The team won't learn anything from Vermeulan in a one off ride on a bike he's never ridden before and might never ride again. He'll spend all his time setting it up to his own style and then the weekend will be over.
