Jay Leno on the Mission Motors Mission R

American comedian and chat-show host Jay Leno has recently ridden the Mission Motors Mission R electric bike on the road in the US. The Mission R uses a lithium ion battery and makes a claimed 160bhp, has around 100ftlb of torque and has a range of 80-150 miles depending on how hard you ride it. Up front, Mission has decided to use...

good but no wrong,,

very nice to see a nearly credible electric motorcycle, give it a few more years and it will be there. To start with I fort it was credible, but they have made some mistakes about numbers. But very disappointed when you look at the real numbers,,, its 160mph not hp,, 100kw = 136 hp,,, 550lbs = 250kg, don't know where they got numbers from sorry folks not there yet. but 160 mph - 0-60 3 seconds getting there.

I like the internal combustion engine.  What exactly is the point of this? Must make the global warming socialist fools feel good about themselves?

there is about 2000 years of oil under canada !,  the US pay almost nothing for petrol so why ride an electric bike, here in the uk we are crippling our economy with environmetal taxes on fuel and saving nothing in return . anyway does that bike pop n bang on the overrun, does it set car alarms off, does it change note when it comes on cam. Will can drivers jump out of there seats when you pass them if they have the window open, does it sound mega when it hits the limiter just as you change gear, does it smell of hot metal and oil after a thrashing and a whole lot of other thing, but apart from that i'm sure it's a fine bike, it doesn't look half bad and i bet it's even an engineering marvel, but the internal combustion engine is still the best thing since sliced bread imho.

venturer is so right....

electric bikes are not even environmentally freindly given the construction issues and they need juice from somewhere.

Doesent quite beat the combustion

As has been said before , there aint no rumble an electric motor. Also , until they find better ways of storing electricity (or making it on the go) they wont catch on. Whos going to buy an electric bike if they have to wait 3 or 4 hours for it to charge up as opposed to filling up at a station which takes 10 mins.

Or will we just trade batteries at petrol stations? I prefer the prospect of hydrogen. Might be more more expensive but it more explosive than unleaded (which means better acceleration or better efficiency or both) All the fun of unleaded without the fumes.

Helmet

That's a great bike and a credit to the engineers. However Jay needs to buy a decent helmet that fits him properly !!

Decibels

I am seriously concerned that these bikes are so quiet.

My buddy once said "Death is silent"'.

I'm thinking dangerous.
